Our 7800 front-end isn't kicking in when we switch to on or auto, the light on the dash doesnt come on so thinking could be an electrical issue, anyone experience this problem before?

Thanks!!

These tractors use power to DISENGAGE the front end. Not to engage it like you might think. So if there is no power to it, it should be engaged at all times. I would remove the connector and test it with a meter or test light. The light should light with the switch in the OFF position. It should go off with the switch in the constant ON position. In auto, it will depend on ground speed.

It may be a bad or incorrectly adjusted brake switch since the brakes will disengage the front end. If that switch thinks that the brakes are ON, it will apply power to the front end to disengage it.

Possibly a wire off on the soliniod which engages 4wd somewhere around the front of gearbox where front drive shaft leaves gearbox.

+1

There are 2 micro switches up under the cowl area, should be able to see them while laying on floor looking up, its common for them to fail and stick.
Sometimes you can get lucky and spray a little WD40 on them where the plunger portion is and free them up, but plan on replacing, as this is more of a temporary fix.

As mentioned above the fwd clutch is spring applied and electric over hydraulic to release, you can touch a knife blade or screwdriver to the solenoid valve at the rear of the drop box to see if it is magnetized, if it is you should be able to disconnect the wire connector at the solenoid and get fwd. I you do not have fwd with the wire disconnected you have an internal mechanical problem.

Could be the switch too. Had one do the samething, ended up being the switch.

Yes, that's what I was getting at about the brakes. The pedal hanging up (actually down too much), an incorrectly adjusted brake switch or a bad brake switch could cause this. This would keep the front from engaging and also prevent the light on the regular switch from showing that it was engaged.

If the regular engage switch is bad, it would have to be bad in the sense that it sends power out power regardless of the position of the switch. Checking the solenoid with a screw driver or knife to see if it is staying magnetized would be a good test.

Again remember that the logic is reversed, OFF is ON and ON is OFF when thinking about the electricity versus the engagement.

If the wire were off, the front would be engaged at all times. The solenoid disengages the front.

Thanks for the replies I'll look into the pedal and check the solenoid, not so sure it's not engaged just know that when we flip the switch the light would come on and you could feel it kick on when parked but don't feel it do that nor does the light come on!!! Thanks again!!!

If anything goes wrong with MFWD clutch the default is to be engaged. Have you tried making it slip to find out if it is or is not engaged. The light in the dash could be burned out and you can replace them.
