| Hey guys, we're looking at a Challenger MT765C with right at 2000 hours on it. The belts seem decent and overall it seems to be a good looking machine. I was wanting to know a little bit more about them as we've never had a track machine before. What are some other wear points to look at? How do tracks wear compared to tires. Our ground is pretty spread out so we spend a decent amount of time on the road? What does a set of 18" belts cost for one of these? Any and all information is greatly appreciated! Thanks! | |||

cropsey, il 61731 | We bought a 765B earlier this spring and it's a great tractor. Ours has lots more hours (6500) but runs nice. New 18" belts have to be $3500 to $4500 each unless you find a special deal. The road ride is really quite good for a tracked tractor. Our 75C feels like somethings broken going down the road. In the field they are both way better than wheels except for going over a peak or ledge - once over center the ride gets more interesting. We have a few sensors that want to flash error codes once in a while, but nothing that stops it in the field.

![]() Pittsburg, Kansas | Watch for leaks around the seals on the reaction arm bearings, Any seeps indicate it may be about ready for bearings. We have had very little trouble with the bearings on our 755 A series but the two 765C series have been somewhat problematic. The latest install was supposed to be fixed in an update though. We will see. Personally I think maybe the bearing quality just is not what it used to be, but that is just speculation. Otherwise a good tractor. We use ours mostly to pull 36 row 20" planters. Hitchcock SD | We got our 765C in 2011 and has been one of the most trouble free tractors we have ever bought. Great tractors.

north central Iowa, Hampton | If you're buying it from a Challenger dealer, they've most likely looked at the Reaction Arms. If not, take your phone camera with the flash on, stick it down low on the front side, between the two steel tires on the back axle and point up toward the rear axle. take the picture and see if there is ANY evidence of oil. There have been several updates to that reaction arm. The last one is supposed to be holding pretty good. If you see any oil, you'll spend around $5000 per side to replace with a reman direct from Agco. If you run it till it fails, it's probably more like $8000 if the core's still usable. If it's totaled (they can burn) it's more in the neighborhood of $12000 each. If it's been repaired in the last couple years, it should have the new style and you're likely ok, just change the reaction arm oil every time you change the crankcase.

![]() Pittsburg, Kansas | The very best ride you will get out of it will be when the tracks are brand new. As the track grousers work harden it will get slightly worse. As they wear down it will get considerably worse. If you drive a tractor with half height lugs and one with new belts, you will think you are driving completely different tractors. Worn out belts ride horrible, most noticeably on hard surfaces. Not a problem in worked ground. A new set of belts is like getting a new tractor as far as ride is concerned. John
