We had a pull type AC back in the forties & pulled it with a JD "A" but Dad said the "M" IH worked better on it. Have not had a PT combine since but in the 60's & 70's there were quite a few JD, IH, White & MF in our country but mostly the first two.

IH 914 pull types were very common in wheat country here, I had a few, and they were a real good machine, simple, easy to maintain, but with the transition to row crops in this area came the demise of the pulltype combine.

Neighbor has an AC that he uses to harvest alfalfa seed. Very rarely do you see it out but he uses it every couple years.

Pull types disappeared around here after the MH 21 and Cockshutt No 112 came out.  I have one neighbor that either has or used to have a Axial Flow pull type.  Used it in grass seed.

Rusty6 uses a John Deere 7721.

Can see it in action in some of his videos on YouTube.

Yup. Have 7721 on 4450 and had 6601 before that. Where in potato country and they where popular late eighties early nineties cause everybody had big tractor around so made sense to use pto combine. Neighbour still uses his 6601 and there was a 9501 here for awhile too. There where couple MF and IH. We have 9600 now but just kept 7721 around for spare and we use it every year for barley. For small acreage there hard to beat but most people have just gone to custom now.

We used a IH 1482 and a 1682 in the late 90's for seed crops. They were good, effective, cheap combines. They only thing that would have made them better for that work was IVT tractors.

On the 7721 do have to get out to change the cylinder speed or header speed. What runs the unloading auger? Will a 643 head fit on one. Just never been around one. I'm guessing u have to run down corn to get the field opened up.

We ran a couple 914's behind a 7120 magnum. That was a good combination. We used it for oats.

It has electric clutch on unloading auger and header. It has monitor in cab that turns them on and adjust the header speed. You can also adjust cylinder rpm from cab but you have to get out to set the height. You can put 643 on them Amish here will widen them where tongue is to make them fit. I think they just leave strip around outside in hay so they can get started. Guys here put 215 or 216 heads on jd combines by moving feeder house over so head offset. One guy who fixes our tractors has ih so you don't have to worry about overloading one side walkers and took 922 head and cut it down to make 18ft offset head for his. Only problem is he's can only use 100 hp so take but power to get things turning. Went down to see about making 215 for ourselfs and saw guy combining with 6410 on 7721 Titan. . Think them must turn them up when they get them home.

We had 8650 white for many of years. They were a good machine. Pulled with a 4230 for many of years until we got a 4640. Before that was a 5542 Oliver I think it was before I can remember. Had the pull type till we bought a 8820 around 2008 and since then have updated to a 9600. We farm close to 2000 acres.

Know of a 7721 sitting on a local farm, remember a couple of JD 65 & 96 combines in the area, a MF 751 & a White 8650, & maybe way back a uncle had a IH 150?? not sure if that was the number. Although there was a quite a few 914 & 6601 pull types but the JD's have disappeared to South America-taken apart & put into a shipping container. Live right in the RRV of the North so mainly here is New Combines of all flavors-I of a chosen few using a 9500 still with engine hours under 4000-just barely-think its not quite used up yet-in the specialty soybean market it provides less stress cracks in the soybean seed for buyers- then wrapping it around 2.5 to 3 times around the rotor. But wouldn't mind a rotor as well.

I grew up pulling 914's around with a case 1570 tractor. We swathed all our crops back then. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven when my older brothers bought a 1482. In 1990 my brothers bought a 9501 pull type and put it behind a steiger CR1280. Combine was a bit of a dud, plus the tractor didn't have very good speeds for a pull type combine. I'm on my 4th SP combine now, and straight cut most of our acres. Can't say I miss looking backwards.

Our Amish community can have tractors, but no cabs and they can't be more than 120 hp.

In the early 70's, I went and helped my Grandad Kastens harvest his wheat. It was a very memorable experience!

Yup and versatile made one too called transaxial. Always thought they looked cool but think they had some flaws. I always thought there had right idea with auger on top machine so you could unload on right side. Combines seem backwards to me but guess cause I grow potatoes and we load on right side.
