| So, I made a deal on a New Holland 218 today, was looking for a L220, but looking at a used 220 with low to moderate hours, I could get a L218 brand new last year model(2015) I know the lift capacity is 200 less pounds, so we added a weight lift kit, adding 200 lbs mounted on the back of the 218. It was kind of an impulse buy, as I have been searching for a 220 but came across this scenario/opportunity. Horsepower is roughly the same. Am I off my rocker for making this deal? It will be used for loading TMR, hauling bales(wet/dry) and possibly on a sand shooter. Any pros/cons you may see in this? Thanks |

Badger State | You might miss the 220 on the shooter otherwise it won't make much difference. That said we used to have 218s and have all 220s now.

Pine City, MN | Don't do a search in here on the NH200's. They haven't been well received. |

northeastern Ohio | I have a L218. Never really liked it from day one. It was a first year machine, so maybe that is why it had so many problems. I still don't like it. I now have it on the sand shooter. Needs some weight on the back end.
The rest of my skid loader fleet: L465, LS140, JD 4475 (same as the L465). These little loaders are handy in the barn. I bought the L218 with the hopes of getting a machine that would do more. It's bigger, but not better.
I tried a Kubota 75 earlier this year. It was way more machine than the 218, but didn't quite have the forward reach. |

Minnesota | We had a LS 170 and that went to the dealer to get repaired and they let us use a used L220 and that was a night and day difference between those two but when ours got done the dealer ha a brand new 218 there and we traded for that and I thought there was little performance difference between the two such as going into the silage bag and getting a bucket full but other than that we have no complaints about our 218. |

Eastern Iowa | I would have probably did what you did and went with the new machine unless you knew more about the used machine.
You can run the L218 for a while and see if you like and if not you can always trade up , you will have the warranty and a newer machine to trade up with. I think when buying a used skid loader its condition will have a lot to do with the operators which could be good or bad and that is unknown? |
