Ohio | 2008 Ford F-350 with a service body is almost impossible to add fuel. It always wants to spit back out the full tube. If you work with it sometimes you can find the right place and it pumps pretty decent. Usually takes me 15-20 minutes to add gas and I'm getting tired of it. Any fixes? Thanks |

w. wi. | We had same problem with a Dodge and a flat bed. Took the ball out of the filler pipe that cured the problem. But the automatic shut off on pumps would always spill. We just held it wide open till you could here it near full. |

NE Ga | Have '79 F350 with Knapheide flat bed. Tank filler hose is about 4' of twist & turns. Metal & rubber hoses clamped together. Poor design. Takes forever to fill. There is no fall on about 2 feet of the filler hose. Plan is to reroute hose, make it shorter with plenty of fall. Seldom use the truck any more, but it is in great shape. 33K miles |

Ohio | Interesting. I'll have to see if mine has a ball. Was it down at the tank? |

Strasburg, ND | Drive it up on a block of wood. |

SW Ohio | Had same problem on one I used work out of. Try turning the gas nozzle upside down. Sounds crazy but it worked for me! |

Michigan | Yes we had same problem. Like other poster said there are corners and areas where there is no fall in the hose. We took it all off and ran a new hose, straight shot to the tank. Works great now. Im sure there is a reason the route the fill line like that originally, but we couldn't figure out why so we changed it to what works. |

Ohio | That's what I normally do. The sweet spot for me was at about 2 o clock. Seemed to pump pretty well there by I am just getting tired of dealing with it. I want to be able to shove the nozzle in and pump in gas without having to fight it. |

Saronville NE | My pu and service box is same way. Only way it works is basically upside down, then fills right up I have no clue but sure faster so I'll keep doing it. |

Marion County, Kansas | Could be the evap system. Is your check engine light on? Might be something
plugged with the tank vent system. |

southern IA | Gas or diesel?
If its gas there is a known problem with the charcoal canisters plugging. Ford issues the TSB listed below on it. Ford even updated the charcoal canister to help with the issue.

If its diesel its likely just the routing. Had several diesel superduty trucks from F250-F550 with Knapehide boxes at my previous job. Only time one of them had a problem filling was when the rear spring broke and partially pinched off the fuel fill. The F550s were cab/chassis and had the midship tank. The F250 and F350s were standard frames with the normal 38 gallon tanks. |

Agreed. One of the bale bed pickups is a pain, but fills up without trouble if it is upside down. |

w. wi. | The cage and ball are right by where the end of the nozzle stops when all the way in. If I remember right. |

| If it has a ball, it should be at the bottom end of the steel pipe.. and held in with a tripod type plastic retainer. Last year, I put on a flat bed (circle D) on our 3500, and instead of mounting the typical filler neck under the bed like most... and cuss that it doesn't work, I welded a nice filler gusset on the headache rack, and put in a nice SS grommet/flange that holds the OEM filler neck. Of course, I needed to cut a hole in the deck where it drops down, but it's tucked in to the extreme corner of the flat bed. 4 feet of multipurpose hose connects that with 2 bends, about 2 feet of flat run, and finally the tank. Fills like a charm, no matter how fast. Check your vent return first! it might be choked down for 'safety reasons'... (roll over device etc) Usually, 'burping' is more not letting air out of the tank, rather that putting in liquid too fast. |
