Subject: Gramoxone rates

I have a field that the weeds got away from me. Crop consultant recommended I did not spray them with a second pass over the top with round up while they were setting pods. He said it would reduce yield. Not sure I totally agree with his assessment because I think the weed pressure is equally bad or possibly worse. Anyhow, that is water under the bridge now for this year's crop.

My question is what rate of gramoxone can be sprayed after the beans start dropping leaves to kill the weeds to make harvest go quicker? Anyone that has unplugged a case/ih rotor will appreciate the reason for needing a clean field. Also, what percentage of leaves need to be turned yellow or dropped prior to spraying to avoid any damage to the actual soybean plant/seed?

TIA

...where are you located? If there is a frost potential..you may not need to spray it!

Google the label. Lots of good information on the label for soybeans pre harvest.

EC AR mile from the levee
In the mid south we dessicate defoliate beans with gramoxone at pint to acre. Beans need to be touching each other in the pod Will do this to get early delivery prices and really helps with green stalk drying before they pop out

16-20 ounces depending on weed size. Plenty of surfactant.

Located in North Central Ky. Crop consultant said pint to the acre. That just seemed light to me for killing 6 to 7 ft tall waterhemp. The beans are an early maturing variety (3.9 planted on April 19). It will be 4 to 6 weeks before a potential killing frost. My fear is the beans will be flagging and head shatter will be an issue if I try to wait on a killing frost.

Before the I get fired up for letting waterhemp get that big, I tired just about everything to stop it. This is river bottom ground that floods every winter. It is hard to controll the seed bank. I used a pint of 24d (lv6) 44 oz of round up, 7 Oz authority xl and 1 oz of sharpen at burndown, 3.5 quarts of flextar GT with 2 oz of zidua over the top. We have had a lot of rain here this summer. I think the pre and post residuals lost there effectiveness and by being washed out. Some of the beans were 2 to 3 foot tall and canopied when the water hemp broke through. Beans were planted in 15 inch rows, 146,000.

..yanno, I'm glad you mentioned that. I was going to look for some Gramoxone this fall, and I didn't know for sure what I was looking for. I've sprayed it before, but don't think I've ever taken the time to read how much is in each product...just the amounts I should be using.
