Does anybody know how much gear oil it takes to fill a gearbox on a 863? I've got one that's leaking. I was going to use corn head grease but I can't seem to find out how much it takes. We should get started next week sometime. I shelled a sample Monday & it was 19%. Thanks in advance

They have a dip stick on the square plug. If I remember right.

If you are talking about putting in JD corn head grease, don't do it. I tore apart 2 800 series heads that someone had put grease in and they were worn out bad. The IH head is designed for oil and is not designed to push the grease into the bushings, bearings and gears like a JD does.

Maybe try some Lucas oil in it.Some say it will stop the leak or slow it down.

Well I have had JD cornhead grease in my 863 for going on 16 years. Leaked oil back then. When something finally goes, well I think I have gotten my moneys worth out of it.

They hold almost 3 Qrts. If it leaks. Pump a lil corn head grease in w the 80 x 140 gear oil
I run a 863 myself. Don't hurt anything

All of them leak a little but this one is really bad. I was checking and filling all of them and ran out of oil on the last one so I went to town to get more oil. When I got back there was a big puddle under one . Just happened to be the same row I put new seals in last year. The housing is wore and the seals didn't fit tight so I thought maybe some thicker grease would stay put.

if you still need one after harvest let me know, I am going to part out our 844 after harvest this year, I kept it to combine for 1 person who still did wide rows and we are planting for them next year, and it is worth too much in parts to sell for peanuts, when we have another 800 series head we use
