Does anyone know what a Ford TW 30 is in the Steiger line up ( Panther, cougar, bearcat or possibly a polecat)

I assume you mean FW30? I know they are the same as series 3 steigers, going by HP it would be similar to a cougar.

In this article there is some info on the fords, not sure if it is all correct but it is something. http://www.bigtractorpower.com/steiger4wdtractorhistory.htm

Eastern North Carolina
COUGAR

Don't think there was a TW with the horsepower to fill the FW-30 slot, TW-35 probably took the place of the FW-20.....

The FW-20 ran a 555 V8 Cummins, the FW-30, 40 and the FW-60 all ran the 903 V8 Cummins. FW-60 was turbocharged.

FROM BIG TRACTOR POWER....

Steiger built Ford FW Series
Years of Production: FW Series 1978-1982

Models:   FW 20 (210 hp) FW 30, (270 hp) FW 40 (295 hp) FW 60 (360 hp). FW 20 = Bearcat FW 30 = Cougar FW 40 = Cougar Fw 60 = Panther

History:  The 1970's was a changing time for the Farm Industry. Just twenty years before a large farm tractor was 30-40 hp but by the end of the 1970's 300+ hp was an emerging tractor market that equipment manufactures were selling and farmers were demanding for their growing operations. Ford did not want to miss the boat and rather than going through the cost and time of
engineering and testing a Ford 4wd tractor they looked to the proven
market leader: Steiger. From 1978-1982 Steiger provided Ford with a line
of 4wds from 210-360 hp. These Blue Steigers were sold as the 210 hp Ford FW-20, 270 hp FW-30, 295 hp FW-40 and the 360 hp FW-60. The Ford FW-20 and 30 were dropped in 1980 in favor of the TW series front-wheel assist models increasing sales. The Ford/Steiger relationship ended in 1982 as the North Dakota supplier began to run into finical troubles in the sagging Ag economy. Ford began looking for a new option to provide 4wd power for their tractor line. That new opportunity would come five years later when Ford purchased the Versatile Corporation.

Stieger never made a green one like the blue ones. It was kinda a combination. I believe a PTA frame but with the 20 speed instead of the Allison. Also a 903 Cummins (instead of the 855 or 3306)and the hydrostatic PTO. I used to have one.
I assume you meant FW-30. FW = 4 wheeler. TW = 2 wheeler.

Correct, ford fe series had a pta frame with 20sp manual tranny. A puma 1000 is 190 engine horse and a tw30 is 175 pto or about 205 engine hp. I have a puma 1000 and a 8830 ford. Steiger better for heavier work, ford better for smaller tasks. My puma is turned up a little so seems to Pull a little better. Trannny is more user friendly in ford.

No the frames are not the same for all Series 3 Steigers. ST's are wide frame and PT's are narrow frame. Axles varied on the Steigers. All the Ford's had S34 axles with the FW20 having a different ratio than the FW30,40 and 60.

I have a FW 30 I have lost lots of sleep with the 903. I have noticed Steiger green paint under the Ford blue on some parts. As nervous as it makes me I doubt any other brand would have done any better. I almost bought a second one once so couldn't be too bad. As old as they are your experience will be all about luck.

Well, you're close. The PT350 was identical to an FW60. There was a whole series of PT tractors built with the long narrow frame and manual transmissions, but that's the only one that's identical to a FW.

Case parts does not list a PT350. They list a ST350 Panther. They also list a PTA325. The only PT's listed are the 225 and 270, both of which had the 3306 CAT engine.

Mine made the neighbors lose sleep.......... That non turbo 903 breathing out of a 5" aluminum strait. You could hear it chortling for about 4 miles on a quiet eve. Never had any problems with the engine.
