West Central Iowa | I have a mechanical 8.3 Cummins engine in the combine (93 R62) with the Bosch injection pump that is leaking from the bottom of the pump especially near the drive end. I understand there is an o-ring under the bottom plate that is notorious for leaking. It looks like there is a plate held on by six small bolts. Is there anything under the plate that can fall out when removed? I plan on getting the o-ring tomorrow at the pump shop and will ask them too but just wondering if anyone is familiar with this repair and has any tips. The red circled area is where oil drips off the bolt heads on the bottom of the pump.

Iowa | Pretty straight forward on o-ring replacement. Have a small pan available to catch oil that will drain from governor housing. Install new o-ring and put a light film of silicone on plate and o-ring and reinstall. Do not overtighten bolts. Should be set to run a long time.

| Ask the pump shop if there isn't an updated thicker plate that is better reinforced than the thin original. It's been a few years back but we had that same problem (dripping fuel) on our R62 and I know the pump shop sent us a new plate that solved the problem. Something about the original was faulty and it was a known problem at the dealer. Sorry for the incomplete answer but I can't remember the details of the plate problem.

| Update kit has new plate with reinforcing straps that new screws go thru. Your inj pump shop should have the kit |

Northeast Louisiana | Yeah, update that plate. It can break and actually leak a lot of oil out of your engine. |
