Morris, IL | I've been working on these off and on for while now, changed designs few times, pretty happy with where they are at right now. They could be better, but for my little 6500 about all i can handle i think. Boom is nothing special on this and weight is a major issue, front end is already light. I can feel them back there as is. Only setup as skip row, i think that will work fine for my needs. I tried them other day in some 9-10' tall corn and seemed to work really well. I want to get them perfected for next year, going to run few acres as a test. I tried my best to destroy them with no luck, but did have problem with a pair of them getting into hydraulics when folding i had to take care of. Kind of a pain to fold as 4 of them need to be lifted up to avoid hitting wheels or dragging. They are made of 3/4" Sch. 40 PVC so very light weight, flexible instead of breakable. The Y is a 90 side outlet they call it, get sch. 40 not furniture grade. I tried few different setups on the bottom and just a 12-15" piece seemed like the best, it needs to be smooth to avoid catching. I started with 15" which seemed to work but i got in some gooseneck corn and the 12" worked better. Not 100% sure yet if i'll have to go back to 15" for better results in standing corn yet or not. The hose is just 1/2" sprayer hose, it fits perfectly. I cut them 4', just seems the longer the better they work. At the end of the 12-15" piece i just slit the PVC and use a hose clamp to tighten the hose. Inside i've ran 3/8" tubing, one going to each side of the Y. Oh and the mount is 1" heavy wall conduit, threaded stuff, it's perfect fit ID to 3/4" PVC OD. Halfway planning to cut my sidedress Nh3 rate back 50-75lb and Y drop another 30-90 depending on the year, maybe nothing in really dry year. If i can buy wholesale UAN this past year is the same price or a bit cheaper then retail NH3 and i can save on the UAN starter as well. Seems like they are a 5mph tool for me and my sprayer, I ran them up to 7.5mph but seem much more steady at that speed, i can still cover lot of ground 60' wide at 5mph. This sprayer is really turning into an all season machine, from spraying pre's and post to Y drop and fungicide even for smaller operation seems i'm putting lot of time in it. Thanks for all the help along the way, hope someone else can make use of this. Central Illinois | Looks great. How hard is it to fish both hoses thru the bottom fitting?

south east north Dakota | Do you see needing to cut the pvc hanging pipe like a third of the way down and attach a rubber hose to the ends to allow bending?

Morris, IL | Not really possible or it wouldn't be easy Steve. If you wanted i could probably get a string to drop in one of the 3/8" tubing, somehow get one pulled in that way but they cost 7$ per drop total, really just not worth it. I just put them all together one piece at a time with the 3/8 tubing already in place. The 1/2" hose can easily be changed if you lost or damaged one. I'm thinking of having a shorter set that i can use earlier in the season when corn is shorter and my booms are still in the low hole, and also use if i ever wanted to use on 30" soybeans and be able to get them entirely over the crop during the turn. In corn the drops just like of wiggle themselves through, they can swivel so when i back up they flip around. I guess over time swiveling the same way the tubing would get in a jam but i'm not too worried about it, take a long time for that to happen i think.

Morris, IL | No, i tried something like that and it was too flexible. In the shop i can take the 3/4" and bend it in a 90 and it doesn't buckle or break. That is kind of what i was getting at about 1" being too rigid and 1/2" too flexible. Now i'm not sure if something else would give way if all 12 or even just 6 of them did that on my boom maybe the cable or spring would give out, it's a Hardi 60' FF boom. Saturday afternoon i ran in some VT 9' tall corn, I was shooting for them 1' off the ground which seemed like ideal, but i wanted to see what it would take as far as abuse, so i started lowering them lower and lower until i was only 5-5 1/2' off the ground, at that point they would have been dragging 1' or so, and was surprised it did no damage, didn't pull the boom back much or anything. Honestly i was very surprised. Go to your local menards and pick up a piece of 3/4" schedule 40, it has some give, maybe just a fraction too much as they can get a swinging if you go to fast and aren't perfectly centered. But i've watched lot of Yield 360 Y drops running and they get a swinging a bit as well, not like rigid pipe. But this size PVC really seems pretty good for this application. You can kind of get a feel for how they would wiggle through corn on guess rows and such. 10' stick is like $1.85 i think plus i got 11% rebate. I had to order the side outlet as menards didn't carry them. PVC fittings online or something like that, $1.20 each i think plus shipping. I think i have 7$ in each drop. 10' stick of conduit did all my mounts along with some strap iron i had laying around. I probably have 4-500$ in this project with all my trying this, trying that, but the finished product is very cheap. I think the boom fittings and couple set of orifices were more expensive then rest of the drop. Edited by NEILFarmer 7/10/2016 22:29

N.C. Iowa | How is the 3/8" hose attached to the 1/2" hose?

Cen IL | Very neat Ty ! Lots of thought went in to it. Want to stop by and visit one of these times

Morris, IL | Honestly it's not anywhere. 3/8" is floating in there but it doesn't move as going through the Y it is kept from moving, just it's a tight turn for it. The 1/2 is a tight fit, the 3/4" ID and the 1/2" OD is about the same, i've ran few acres and never lost a hose. But i have since cut the 3/4" and put hose clamp and can no longer be pulled out without loosening. That isn't pictured. Anytime Jeff, 3.5miles straight north seneca I80 exit.

Frytown, Iowa | Is the sprayer tall enough to go through tasseled corn in the future? I sure your just dying to try it out now is why your doing it?

is this your only sprayer? acres a year on it? Do you find it hard to rinse the tank out good when sprayer chemicals.

Morris, IL | Yes it has 6' under frame and 9' boom height. It is VT corn ready, I'm spraying some fungicide today with it. Edited by NEILFarmer 7/11/2016 12:45

Morris, IL | They just wiggle through, I lift up so they are about 2' off the ground. I can lift the wings way up and get them out near the ends, that helps if you turn sharp.

Morris, IL | Only farm just short of 700, sprayer gets 1500-2000a year not including another 500 maybe y dropped next year I'm kind of a one man band with only help tending, so in the spring I keep pretty busy between planting, spraying, side dressing NH3, and spraying again. I have no problem rinsing the tank out at all.

How are your y drops working out. Where sre your metering orfices located? I just purchased a JD6000 because I want to put nitrogen on when the corn is starting to tassel. Any info will be very appreciated as this is my first attempt.

Great idea, on the nozzle bodies, what type of connector did you use, it is hard to see if it has a hose barb or is a compression type of connector. What size is the clear hose - 3/8" and I understand you slipped it inside the 1/2" inside of each of the Y, but how did you clamp it with a hose clamp? Thanks.

Morris, IL | Boom fitting is a shark bite, https://www.dultmeier.com/products/0.811.812.2178.5268/9422. The bottom left in picture, the 3/8" is second on listed. The tubing isn't actually clear and have found this to be bit confusing. The tubing I now have is black, very similar to what is used on planter air systems. So it shark bites at boom and follows down tube, spills off at Y. There it follows 1/2" sprayer hose clear to end. The hose clamp just keeps the 1/2" hose from pulling out of PVC.
