Mid Michigan | How many bales per role do you get normally? I have a 466 and normally use twine. I would like to use more netwrap but can't seem to make the math work. Help me see what I'm missing. Doing the calculation C=2pie r using 3' for the r and using 4 wraps per bale it only comes to at the most 20 per roll. I may have an adjustment problem because if I go below 4 I seem to have a problem getting it to cut automatically. Any way that makes for a big difference in cost per bale. About $.50 for twine vs. About $3 something for net. Help am I doing something wrong show me my error please |

| Iwrap my alfalfa with 2 wraps and grass or wheat straw with 3 get upwards of 170 bales a role |

| Go to a dealer or call one and ask. It says approximately how many depending on number of wraps right on the roll. |

McMinnville Tn. | 4x5 roll using a 9840 ft. roll. 2 wraps per room I get between 232-234 bales per roll. This is a net wrap sold at a local feed store. $233.00 per roll |

mn | I usually only run 2.5 wraps on hay. They type of wrap you use will also make a difference. There is much better stuff out there than the Deere (tama) wrap.
On an 8000 ft roll I usually get about 165 5x6 bales out of one roll. So it costs me about $1.30 a bale for wrap. |

The Palouse North Idaho | 2 *pi*3 =18.9 ft per wrap * 4 wraps = 75.4 ft x 20 bales = 1508 ft per roll of wrap. I don't know where you get your wrap but that's a small total length for a roll of net wrap. I'd suggest you check the length of the rolls you are looking at because I recall the length of the roll I bought being something like 6500 ft long
I use 2.5 wraps per bale for grass hay.d 4 wraps sounds excessive.

| To answer your question, using John Deere cover edge 9000 ft roll for 5 ft wide balers making a 5.5 ft tall bale I get right around 200 rolls per roll of net. For 4 ft wide balers there is 12,100 ft per roll so even more rolls. Be careful buying net some don't like JD net but some of the other brands will have 6,000 to 7,000 ft per roll for a lower price but it works out to being more expensive per bale not to mention having to change rolls more often slowing down the baling process.
Your net is only as strong as the weakest link. Use 2 wraps or 3 wraps but 2.5 is no stronger than the side that has 2 wraps on it so the side with 3 wraps is wasted material. As far as the math goes it does cost more to put net on than twine in almost all cases. With that said it normally takes 40 to 50 seconds to put a good number of twine wraps on a bale, with net that time is reduced to around 6 seconds. More bales per hour, less wear on the baler, less fuel used, the roll looks better, it hauls better, it weathers better and it has more eye appeal to the buyer. When net became popular people were charging an extra dollar or two to put net on verses twine because of the same math you are using. Now if someone insisted that I put twine on a bale it would be at least $2.00 more than net. I haven't threaded twine in any of my balers in at least 10 years. |

NE SD | I'm with you! Twine isn't cheap and all the wasted time costs money! I also never understood the half wrap, like 1 1/2 or 2 1/2, figured one side is always weaker than the rest. I use minimum 2 on everything, sometimes 3 on rotary straw. |

Shelburne Ontario Canada | Just picked up some claas mesh wrap they are 4500meters . Wraps 300 hay or 200 straw give or take . |

|
NEMO | Your formula is wrong,,,circumference= 3.14x radiusx radius. I get 175- 200+ on a 569. Haven't used twine in years, last 2 balers never had twine in them, not a bad backup plan if the net is acting up, or if you want to just make some twine bales for those days when the net is iced on |

Sw mn | I have a jd 457 baker and use 51" net from jd I get about 300 of hay per role and about 225 for corn stalks and straw. |

Wallis, TX | FYI John Deere had a calculator on their website, at least they did a few years ago. |

Northeast Misery | +1
Get around 270 out of the 12000ft roll, iirc. |

Mid Michigan | Okay and thanks for your input!!....I must have something out of adjustment because when I go under 4 wraps it doesn't cut. Where would you recommend starting |

The Palouse North Idaho | Circumference of a circle = 2*pi*R =pi*D |
