Subject: Trouble with John Deere EGR valve system

We run an 8235 R for utility reasons (stalk cuting, planting, grain cart), have started to have problems with EGR valve. We had Deere come out and put on new valve. Seemed to work great for 2 days then back to way it was. Tractor will spit and stutter, choke and burp and about stall itsself out. All this under light and medium load.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Any codes come up? What makes you think it's in the EGR system? Are you loosing coolant? Has it gone through a Parked Regen?

Codes are all ECU's. 2659.15 , 1569.31.
There is a message that also comes up that says EGR valve not in correct position (didn't catch code on it)
As far as the coolant, no leaks that I've noticed and system seems to be full.
The Park Regen has me intrigued, the box is checked for auto but the park button is always grayed out.

Go work the living piss out of it!!! Hook it to the biggest implement (plow disc or cultivator) you can find and get it HOT. Egr/DPF systems are not good at light duty work. They need the heat to burn off the crap in their systems.

DEF equipped units are somewhat better but not by whole lot.

sw corner ia.
egr systems are not good for anything, especially the longevity of the motor.

Well they are good for the manufacturers and dealers! Have the opportunity to build/sell and install more as they are notorious for short life spans.

How old is the tractor? Should have 5 year warranty on emissions.

It's either an '11 or '12 model with 18822.7 hours and counting. Surely the filter wouldn't need cleaning with such few hours would it?

Typo? 18,000 hours?

With doing light duty work yep that filter will need cleaned(hope a good hot run and regen will get most of it). Dealer can command a parked regen and if that fails....its time to REMOVE the DPF and send it to be cleaned out.

Yea sorry, 1822 hours. The only heavy pulling this tractor get is a 50ft McFarlin harrow and very little time on 25ft field cultivator

I don't know how hard the harrow would work it but the cultivator wouldn't even get it to operating temp! Excessive idling is a killer too.

Have a neighbor that has heavy tillage equipment and let you work some land either yours or his?
