Subject: GPS Speed Into Raven 450

Rupert, Idaho
I am setting up a new to me pull type sprayer. The sprayer came with a Raven 450 controller.

The previous owner used radar for true ground speed.

My tractor (8130 Deere) doesn't have radar, but it does have an iTC receiver and 2600 display.

How can I get a speed reading into the 450?

Also, is there a way to have the 450 turn the coverage mapping on and off on the 2600 display?

You can switch the speed output from radar to GPS by removing the instrument cluster module and there are single weather pack plugs marked radar and GPS. I think it shows it in the operators manual for tractor. Switch those and the radar speed reading will come from GPS. You can get a harness from Ag Express that plugs into the corner post and sends the speed signal to the Raven. Not sure on the part number of harness but if you explain to them what you want they will know. Your local JD dealer might even have them.

There are 2 ways to run your sprayer, with the 450 and with a Greenstar rate controller. You can definitely use the ITC for a speed source and you can even document the rate and coverage from all sections on the 2600. The 2600 can even send variable rate info to the 450, it just can never control sections based on coverage.

To use the 450 and get radar speed from the ITC, you need to connect the GPS wire in the right hand console to make radar available to the speed connector on the right hand corner post. Then you can use AgExpress cable AE2579 to connect the Raven 450 speed input to the tractor. At this point you can spray.
To document rates, coverage by section, you need AE3168. That harness connects to the harness that plugs into the back of the 2600 and it allows the 450 to talk to the 450. When sections are turned on and off it will all show up on the 2600. You can also send rates to the 450. The 2600 will not tell the 450 to shut off sections based on overlap.

If you want a fully automatic system with GPS section control, you can use your 2600 and ITC, but you will also need a Greenstar Rate Controller and a section control activation on your 2600. The Greenstar Rate Controller will completely replace your 450 and you will not need it at all. I bought a new sprayer last year that came with a new Raven 450 and I have never used it in the field! I did set it up to make sure it would work as a backup. If you plan on getting a Greenstar Rate Controller your AMS person should be able to help you identify what components you have and how to make it work. The automatic section control is really nice to have. Once you use that you will not want to use the 450 anymore!

Thanks to both of you. I will get the cables ordered from AgExpress. When I hook the 450 up to the 2600 will the boom configuration information be available automatically or will I need to load additional software?

Here are the instructions for the cable
http://amsretrofit.deere.com/johndeere/retrofit/_www/files/pdf1/pf9...
You will need to make sure you set up the Raven 450 correctly as described on page 5.

On the 2600, if you go to the equipment setup tab, under vehicle, in the bottom right there will be a COM button, it will guide you through the setup on the 2600 side.

The Manual of the 2600 helps too. look up Field Doc Connect.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The above posts about removing the side panel and moving a wire and then using the corner post connector with an adapter are correct.

On my nephews 7830, I put a tee at the connection behind the side panel and ran it out to the Raven. Much cleaner than using the Deere corner post connector with the big glob sticking out of the corner post. Cheaper too.
