Nebraska | Started with nothing and I'm piecing things together have 7 weaned heifers that I feed grain and hay too in an old hog building. Wanting to feed them outside. Took 2 j bunks and slid them in their pen and now they act like billy goats instead they won't stay out of them. I'd like to build a feeder for 10-15 calves that I can drop half s big square in and feed grain. Best way to build it? Let's seem them so I can figure out an idea that will work for me here

move your bunks to the fence line and put a neck rail above them to make a short bunkline- that will keep them from crawling in you bunks.

Memphis, NY | Build a fence line rail with the feed platform elevated 6" for natural grazing height, an 18" x 8" concrete curb from where the animals stand, and buy slant-bar feed panels as the fence. If the animals are too small at first, and can crawl through, you can sandwich two 2x4s around the slanted uprights as a neck rail. Edit: slope the feed pad 2% away from the curb. NS Canada | I have one yard with a wooden plank fence. I have shallow boxes built between the posts, and it acts as the lower rail in the fence too. Effectively giving me fence line bunks, atleast for grain.

candor ny | I agree you can buy those slant gates for about 14 a foot and barrels are cheap if not free.

VT | I just use the barrels which I add a wood leg base to keep them from tipping over

Logan County Ohio | Go buy a couple bale rings that can be split down the middle and chain the halfs of the rings to the gates.

Kansas | An idea i'm thinking about trying is one single strand hot barbed wire fence extra high with an 8" light pole laying on the ground and tied to the T-posts that hold the wire. I've seen it work with cows but I want to try this with 6-8 weight calves. Maybe another light pole to keep them from rooting the feed out of reach.

Badger State | 55 and 15 gallon barrel feeders. I have them in 1, 2, and 3 half barrel lengths. The half 55 barrels on 4x4s works great though it be nice if they were taller when the pen pack builds up. I'm planning to build some with 2x12 bases too.
