Found a good used Hesston 1345 Discbine. It is about 10 years old and everything feels pretty tight. How many acres is high for this machine?- the previous owner said he ran over about 300 acres 1 time a year with it. Is there anything specific I should check over before going to field this summer? Also, would a 2wd 7120 Magnum be too large for this discbine? I think the tractor has about 135 Drawber hp/ 150 PTO. Thanks in advance.

I run a model older a 1340 and you won't regret your 150 hp, I have an agco 8785 on mine, rated at 115, turning 135, and in really good hay with hills I can make it get warm and start to run out of power. (this is really good hay at 12+mph) I used to do 7-800 acres a year with mine over 3 cuts.

We ran a 1365 Hesston for a number of years. Check turtles to make sure there is not to much play from one end of the cutterbed to the other. Turtles should stay perpendicular to each other. Check for oil leaks. Chain oil in the cutterbed. Bearings on the conditioner and acceleration rolls were not grease able on our 1365 so check those. We ran a JD 8300 and 8410 on ours. Too much power, but sure was a nice ride. Your 7120 will be over kill for hp, but just right for a smooth ride. We used a 7120 on a 12' New Idea when I was younger. Tried our CIH 5240 once and it got pushed around and rode rougher.

I've been running a 1345 Hesston for quite a few years now cutting around 400- 500ac / year. It has been a solid rig (have some rocks so gets tested once in awhile). drain oil out of cutter bed (plug under right end) and get the bottle from hesston labeled with numbers of discs so you put in the right amount of oil. isn't as much as you'd believe it should be. Fill plug is on top of cutterbed between 2nd and 3rd disc from left if I remember correctly. you'll want to get the manual just to keep stuff up. Every year I pull the turtles and then the hub under them to remove twine which gets caught. Takes a big socket and air wrench to remove. just make sure you line it up so hub goes on same splines so turtles alternate. check helper belt at right end that drives the little roller below conditioners. if it stops, everything does because it won't feed.
I run mine with an jd 8100 and that isn't too much power in heavy stuff.

We ran ours with a magnum 190. Smoked clutch pack instead of bogging down the tractor like it did on the 100-125hp tractors the 8312 case mowers were on.

Watch helper roll idler and belt idlers. Conditioner bearings are about the only things we ever had trouble with.

Same problem with our 1365 on the 8410. I just had a complete new slip clutch on hand. Not too bad to change out
