I recently purchased a new idea 3639 spreader with a single beater. I want to add the upper beater to it so I checked at Agco about buying it through whole goods, no longer available. Through parts just the beater is 1470 Dollars. I think I will buy the mounting parts from agco and then make my own beater. Does anyone know the outside diameter of the pipe that the blades mount on? I will buy the blades from agco, they are 58 dollars apiece tho. Sure would be cheaper if this was available through whole goods instead of piecing it out. Thanks.

Wright County, MN | We bought one a little over a year ago. It came from a guy in Iowa that bought out the New Idea parts inventory...at least that part of it. Was around $1000 give or take. Pretty sure it was purchased thru local dealer so unfortunately I don't have the name/address. FWIW, best $1000 a guy can spend on spreader parts. Never had an upper beater before. It's awesome. I'll see if I can find out more...

I was thinking going in I could buy it as a kit for maybe 1200. Buying everything thru parts it will be between 2500 and 3000, I quit asking the parts man before I checked every part number

Yes that would be it. Is a 3632 and a 3639 the same width, is a 32 just shorter in length or how are manure spreaders measured?

Hardin County, Iowa | The 3632 is a 320 bushel spreader and the 3639 is 390 bushels. We added the top beater to our old 3626 - I would agree with the above poster that it is money well spent. We ordered our new 3732 with the upper beater. Paul

The parts book show different part numbers for the 32 and the 39. I am thinking that one on Craigslist wouldn't be wide enough but the mounts would work and the sprocket would work also.

NW IA | I had the large single beater replaced by the local welding shop on my 362. They just used a square tube and cut paddles from steel plate. Can't remember the details but it was a fraction of what new parts would have been, and the square tube made it a less complicated fix. I had had the beater replaced once before, round tube, balanced at a machine shop, cost was horrific. They said the unbalanced square tube would not work, but it never was a problem. 362 is a back-up now

NS Canada | Mine is a 3632, but top beater appears to be 3 inch, account for some rust. And roughly 70" wide then it tapers down inot the bearing mounts. Cental Indiana | I too have wondered about adding a second beater. Like others have posted I want to build my own. Round or square bar, flat plates for paddles and chain drive from the bottom beater. Dad says no because the drive train wasn't designed for it. It's his spreader so he has the trump card. Of corse we haul 20 loads a year so I'm not sure there would be much return on investment. I don't know but it would be fun to try. (image.jpeg) Attachments ---------------- image.jpeg (162KB - 222 downloads)

I ordered the mounting brackets this morning for my new idea. My dealer also sells Meyer spreaders. He suggested we call them and see if they will make one to fit my spreader. A replacement beater for one of their spreaders is only about 450 dollars. I believe it is square tubing with flat plates for the paddles. Depending on how full you are loading your spreader it might actually be easier on the drive train to have a top beater, two beaters doing the work of one.

Absolutely. 110% YES! Tractor almost never "slugs" and when it does it's next to nothing compared to the hits it used to take.
