If a person had a 2500 head feeder to finish pig barn turning 2.8 times a year, how many acres would you need to figure for pumping the manure on?

I'm not up on MO regs for calculating rates. However you can figure 800k to 1100k for manure production depending on feeder\waterstyle and size of incoming feeders.

Based on south Iowa rates id suggest that you'll likely be 2500 to 3500 gallons per acre for corn following beans. This depends on yeilds and allowable calculation methods in MO.

Realistically I wouldn't be surprised if you need 250 to 300 rotated corn acres per year.

In Ohio, when building a 4800 head quad, we need 400 acres for our manure management plan. We never cover that much in a year. So 250-300 would be really safe I should think.

+1 in ohio you would only 50 acres a year. 20000/acre x 50 acres is 1000000 gal

20,000 of pig finisher manure per acre I don't think so.... Maybe dairy manure but that still seems pretty thick!

Edit 3-4k per acre is what most ppl apply around here in MN from what I hear

We usually do 1,600,000/6000=267 acres a year. Maintenance is around 4k per acre. We plant at least 2 years of corn for every 1 of beans sometimes 3 or 4 years of corn. We also tend to remove some of the stalks for cattle thus we need to add more nutrients. I've never heard of 20k per acre but that doesn't mean it isn't done. If its that or give the manure away I might consider it. We've done up to 10k an acre but that isn't really sustainable for us so we try not to.

Lot of finish manure gets put on at that rate in North west ohio if you want to belive it or not. It's always are best corn every year. Also the state has caused the problem with letting people build a finisher with only 40 acres. Neghbors won't pay for manure and guy with finisher wants it done as cheap as possible. So you put it on heavy right around building.

I drag hose manure for a living plus have finisher and farm. So I see all sides. I don't know any body around here that would drag hose any thing less then 7000 acre. And I know of 15 people who custom drag hose within 20 miles of me and 5 of those won't do a hog building

Most we can get out of a 2400 HD barn is 925000 gal and it better be ready to run out to get that. Around here we charge .007 for the first mile plus fuel. Takes about 12hrs of pump time to empty one if it's clear full. Most wean to finish barns will las 12months depending how they feed.

I've been having hog finishing manure applied with a drag line at 3000 - 3500 gpa for several years.     It can be done.

I agree it can be done no body wants to pay for it around here they want it done cheap. Neghbors won't pay for it so barn owner wants it done cheap as possible this is ohio not iowa. To much manure around here in spots

Thanks Seth_ia, kind of the numbers I was told, 3500 gal acre and 500-600 acres total if you did a corn/bean rotation.

Just wanted some NAT input.

Could this be part of the cause of the algae bloom in the lake?

If a person planted corn and chopped it for silage, then planted rye and chopped it, and repeat. Could you in theory get by with less acres that needed more gallons per acre?

Yes it is part of the problem. Another problem is. An air way aplicator is considered incorporation in ohio. Also if you work the ground then top apply that also counts to. Try explaing to a pissed of neighbors that see manure on top the ground that your incorpa rating. Oda. And soil and water don't inforce rules and they wander why there is water problems. Not to hard to figure out
End of rant

Why wont they do a hog building? Most of the time we drag-line everything but there are years we have to haul it with tankers.
