Anyone know of a replacement motor for these skid-loaders?

It is roughly a 1979 or 80 4 cylinder gas.

Thanks in advanced!

If it is repowered, how in the world did they stuff a 4-cylinder engine in the place where a 2-cylinder Onan had been?

Don't have any pictures but that was one of our first repowers, 2cyl Onan to a 4cyl Isuzu from a Chevy Luv, belt drive made it easy, had to lengthen the inside by making a new back door and adding a radiator but it ran for a long time here after the switch, was hard on belts! IIRC the rotation was backwards so had to flip the end plates on the pumps and add another idler to the belt to keep it wrapped around the pulleys, it was definitely an "engineered by inventory" item!! It turned out so well that we have done two other Isuzu swaps and have two more for the future, they are easy to come by in old Thermoking units.

John Deere actually didn't produce these machines. Owatonna skid loaders built these and Deere put their logo on them. Owatonna skid loaders came out of Minnesota. Search for your closest dealer and they would be able to help you, and some older dealers have all kinds of parts in stock. Google search also brings up comparable motors. I owned one for miscellaneous jobs and worked good in a small barn for clean outs. I had to replace one hydraulic motor, and a dealer in northwest Iowa has all parts on hand to rebuild the motor. Since then I have upgraded to a 320D, huge difference.

Replaced with a Honda in our 330 Mustang, better than original.

Thank you!

Onan was bought out by a company by the name of Linamar, but I do not think they are producing any complete engines anymore. I think this was probably due to emission regulations. At one time you could still buy most of the individual parts and complete short blocks.

Bought the Honda from Northern Tool, not home so can't give you model. Thinking it was maybe 24 hp, had to add some metal tubing and shims to raise it up. Runs better than new. Onan was a terrible motor.
