Magnetic clutch for feederhouse engagement works at low RPM but when sped up it disengages. Anyone ever have this happen in this manner? Would like some ideas before I start digging in too deep.

Thanks

Sounds like a bad connection that gets vibrated loose when you speed the machine up.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I would agree with the suggestions.

Several years ago I had a 4400 combine where the head would engage for a short time and then disengage.

Turns out the wire feeding the clutch had gotten partially worn through. There were enough strands left to engage the clutch but only for a short time. Cutting out the bad section and replacing it with good wire solved the problem. This bad section was under the seat where the wire was leading from the switch towards the clutch.

On that setup, it was possible to lock the clutch in the engaged position by using a special bolt. I carried one of these with me in case that the clutch failed again and I really needed to keep going.

Fortunately I never needed to use the bolt.

Had the same problem on my 4400. If yours is like mine, take the cummunicator off the end of the counter shaft. Put it in a vice so you can spin it with a cordless drill. Connect the leads of your ohm meter where the hot wire connects and where it comes out to go to the coil. You should have continuity. Spin it with a cordless drill to see if you loose continuity. Theres a small brush inside that could be bad or not maintaining spring tension. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I am focusing my search on the Communicater. Sounds like a simple matter of worn or sticky parts or a losse connection.
