Thinking about getting an inspection camera and Harbor Freight has one with a 2.4 inch screen for $69.99. Will I regret buying one without zoom and what are your experiences with what you have. I like the Milwaukee but the price is a lot higher and has the same 2.4 inch screen. What should I avoid and what should I buy? Thanks

I have about bought that thing several times-then I remember I am at Harbor Freight.

Would like to hear a review from someone who has tried it.

i've never used one but i'd think it'd do the job. you'd probably end up wishing you had zoom but it'd still be better then having nothing at all

I've got a Snap On bore scope with that size screen, never felt the need for zoom but you can adjust the light brighter or dimmer, that's a big deal. The more expensive one with bigger screen would have been nice but pretty spendy.

I found out yesterday that there are cameras that connect to.a smartphone that do the same thing. I think you need the right kind of phone and then the app. Haven't checked to see if it will work with my phone yet, but sounds useful.

Co-worker had a cheap import unit he bought off Ebay and I used it a couple times. The resolution was really bad and usually could not tell what you were looking at. The end was really to big to get bent into tight areas to see.

I have the Harbor Freight 67980 inspection camera. I don't think it is available anymore. It has a 3.5" screen and the camera is 8mm. Focus is 1 to 14". Resolution is 320x240.

I paid around $100 for it a few years ago. I've used it several times but I'm not sure that I would buy again. The camera is 8mm but I wish it had a 5mm. If there is no additional light, it is hard to see more than 5" away. The screen size and resolution are pretty good.

Main things to consider: resolution, camera size, screen size.

I bought one from harbor freight a couple years ago. I think they were 84 bucks back then. It works fine with a color screen. It only has a 3ft flexable lead. I thought it had a zoom, but maybe not, it's been a few months since I've used it. I know you can change the brightness of the light and flip the pictures 1/4 of a turn at a time if somethings upside down. I've used it in gas tanks, and rear ends of tractors. Those JD tractors with the big hole for hydraulic fill in the back make a good place to put the camera lead. You can see the gears really well. The end of the cable doesn't flex well so it takes a bigger hole. It won't flex enough for an oil pan drain hole. It might go straight in, but won't flex enough to see up into the engine.
It's to big for spark plug holes also. But, mine works fine and comes in pretty handy on certain things.

I ordered this micro USB model for my Android smartphone a few weeks ago:

http://m.gearbest.com/microscopes-endoscope/pp_229387.html

I think I paid about $12 and it was free shipping. Took 10-15 days to receive. I didnt trust the software they included (didn't want malware/spamware/virus) so I downloaded a free web camera app from the Play Store.

I have only tested it out on the kitchen counter so far to make sure it worked so I can't tell you how well the light will work buried in a pipe, wall, other tight spot.

A digital zoom doesn't give you much. There's no increase in detail, the pixels just get bigger.
