Have a 7000 JD I'm looking to upgrade. No fert, no no-till coulters. Conventional till here.

Assuming the planter is in tip-top shape and had a few grand to toss at it, what would be the best bang for buck?

Might be useful info to know where you are at, what crops you plant and any issues you have to deal with in any given year. JD 7000 planters will still do a good job when properly tuned, why do you feel the need to "upgrade" it?

I would put the 7200 transmission gears in it. Better distribution of seeding rates that are more applicable to todays seed corn selection (based on central Illinois location). Your area may be different.

I assume you already have Kinze or JD bean meters. Otherwise, either of these.

If the corn meters need some work, upgrading to Precision meters for corn as well as their seed tubes is a nice upgrade. Nothing wrong with the original JD meters, the Precision are a tad better.

CIL
Heavy duty down pressure springs. Bullseye seed tubes. What do you have for a monitor? 20/20 or maybe integra? Got many point rows? Sectional clutches are nice, cheap and simple. Drag chains, quik set adjustable gauge wheel arms.

That said, I'd also look hard at buying a planter with all that already on it given the current market.

Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana
Jamison Contact Wheel Drive.......ditch the Deere Tranny.

Anything else would depend on location, soil type, no-till or conventional.

20 Miles West of Indianapolis Indiana
Adjustable brush meters for corn & Advanced seed monitor like 20/20 or Integra. IMO they go hand in hand together

Row clutches

I Also like Marks Jamison contact drive. Got one on dads Deere 7000. No complaints at all!
