IL | Wondering what anyone's thoughts are on converting a spring axle tandem semi tractor into a single axle. Seems tandem axle trucks are more readily available and less expensive. I've shortened a couple straight trucks so I know what's involved in axle relocation and drive shafts. Am I crazy and just trying to be cheap or does it make sense for under 5k miles a year. |

Why?
There are plenty of SA trucks out there.

| May as we'll leave it a tandem. |

ND | Leave it alone-around here singles are $7500 or cheaper. Pulling out of slippery fields the tandem would do a lot better |

Sac & Story county IA | A guy wanted to make trailer toter out of twin screw. He just put rear axle where intermediate axle was. Chopped off excess frame.
I bought leftovers and made a 3 screw. |

IL | Going to be putting a winch bed on the truck and pulling a pintle hitch deck over with a dozer, gossneck and pup grain trailers. Been finding twin screws "here" cheaper than single drive axle tractors. Is a class 7 going to be as heavy duty as cut down class 8 rig? All my experience is with class 6 trucks as far as moving axles and class 6 trucks aren't holding up. |
