eastern nc | Looking at a JD 3155. Any tips/advise?

 Embarrass WI | What do you want to do with it? They have a dry clutch, so not the ideal setup for loader work. More prone to electrical issues than US-built JD's. I think they are a decent handy tractor as long as you use it for 100 hp work. |

Southern Pa. | Also more prone to hyd. issues. Get it warmed up good, then on slow idle, try turning the steering wheel rapidly from lock to lock while raising the three point hitch. Repeat several times. If it starts to chatter, either the rear transmission pump is weak, or you have internal oil leaks. You'll be digging through the transmission replacing hyd. lines, orings, etc. BTDT.
Personally, I never developed much love for the older utility tractors, including the 55 series. Hydraulic system issues, and pretty gutless to boot. Some folks seem to get along fairly well. Depends on your expectations. Prefer the Waterloo built tractors myself. |

 Oxford County, ON | As Tim said, the dry clutch is not compatible with loader work, but they are a nice size for loader work. We had 2 before we replaced them with 7x10 series tractors. We used to joke that they should have used wingnuts on the mounting bolts so the tractor could be split faster to replace the clutch.
I don't recall any major hydraulic issues, and we ran them to pretty high hours before they left. Some small electrical issues were often happening. There is a fuse board under the dash to the right of the steering wheel that was a nuisance on one of the tractors. |

Sunburst Montana | We had a 3255. We bought it new with a 265 loader and ran it up to 4,000 hrs before trading it off for a 7410. It was a good tractor and never gave us any problems. The dry clutch can be the weak spot but if you use your brain when operating it you can get some life out of them. Don't let wheels spin when grabbing a hay bale or a load of manure or dirt with the bucket. |

Canada | It should be a good machine if it was taken care of. However look it over for hydraulic issues at a idle like others said. We have a 3255 that we need to split to fix a internal leak and under 1,500 rpm the front pump will chatter if using more than just steering. We have had to split ours about every 5,000 hours do to the clutch and the pto clutch around 14,000. The 359 engine is a great starting engine for us as well and has not been touched at over 15,000. |
