Subject: parts from shoup or sloan express

I see some posts on this site of guys buying planter parts from Shoup and other after market companies. Are the parts from them very comparable to the real deal and last just as long? I would think they should be just as good if the specs are the same but would like to hear from guys with experience with some of these companies.

I have had very few problems with parts from either of those companies. Shipping is usually fast too.

+1,  Had good luck with Shoup, but Sloan opener blade bearings had been out of round too much and gauge wheel are tougher to mount than Shoups.

Only use Shoup. Have used Sloan twice.... twice to many times. Have had cases where the Shoup product lasted longer than OEM, and was better quality from the get-go.

Shoup is great in quality & service. Sloan gets almost everything from china. Shoup makes most of theirs in Illinois.

Can't beat Shoup.. get it to you quick and can point you in the right direction if you're unsure about what you need.  The free shipping over $200 just about covers anything you need to get from them, and I always try to have a good idea of what I need for spring and even combine maintenance if I've had time to check all that before the NFMS, 10% discount if you order a couple weeks before the show and pick up there.

Ordered a manure spreader web chain from Shoup Wed., was here yesterday morning. Quality looks good, let you know in a couple of years if I still think so.

Ordered from Shoup many times, very good quality parts and fast shipping. Got some parts that showed up in less than 20 hours after the time of ordering at Shoup. Haven't used Sloan for very many parts. We always check Shoup if we can wait to get certain parts.

We're very happy with sloans. Normally are actual deere parts at a better price.

The Kabat gauge wheel arms for JD 1700 planter units from Sloans make good trotline weights. Wore slap out after 100 ac/unit

I buy a lot of stuff from Shoup. It's been good stuff. Some of their bearings are Chinese but so are some of the OEM stuff. I try to avoid the Chinese bearings.

+1 on Shoup. They are knowledgeable and shipping is fast. Their stuff seems just as good as ol' ma deere.

I spent $400 with shoup this morning. I probably should tear the JD stickers off my combine and planter and replace them with shoup stickers. Parts are great and way cheaper than deere.

Put their Kabat Closing disks on my case planter. Replaced them all at the same time. Most of them wobbled funny, and about 6 of them seized the bearings up in the first season and I literally had to dig the old case ones up out of the junk pile just to keep going. I do like shoup though, quality is good, and shipping is great.

Anything from Shoup that has NO BEARINGS is OK.   I've started avoiding planter blades and closing disks because of the poor Chinese bearings.

Never tried Sloan's. Shoup is AWESOME! Better parts, better price. At least everything we've ordered.

JD disk bearings are worse and are China bearings.

Kabat is literally a mile from my house and no one here uses them. "Cheap Chinese junk" would be an upgrade from them.

We rebuilt a 7300 JD planter years ago and my neighbor was throwing in some parts cause he was going to use it to plant his small farm. He bought closing wheel bearings from Kabat. We ran out of good ones and started to use them to finish out the planter. 100 acres later they were starting to lock up and fall off. But he saved money!

If you order parts to rebuild half of a green planter from Shoup, and half from your gen-yew-wine John Deere store, I'll guarantee a far higher percentage of the JD parts will be made in China.
