The Green Hills of Missouri | http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=507920&posts=7... Last winter I was covered up with starlings. We had lots of snow on the ground and they were coming here to feed and roost. I ordered two of these kits one for the hogs and one for the cattle shed. Was funny as he!! Once turned on ALL the sparrows and starlings went to the tops of the oak trees in the pasture and thats where then spent the next few days. The sparrows did come back for this winter but in much fewer numbers. The bonus is it has attracted a Coopers Hawk. Now when he flys through all birds leave and stay away till roosting time. Good luck and take care. (20150213_084641.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 20150213_084641.jpg (89KB - 243 downloads)

Williamsport IN | I've been through a 100rnd box of 20ga this year and still had them, they would see me and fly away come back When I was gone, was lucky to get one. Finally last weekend I got tarps and plywood and covered everything that had feed exposed, I bucket feed my cattle so I wait till they slick the bunk to leave. Now I've got around a dozen that will not leave but far from the 50-75 I had and I'm working on them.

Have the same problem in the barn. They're fouling the creep feeders, waterers, water buckets, gates, panels-- literally everything you touch. I called the USDA Wildlife Control Services last year, since in the past they had a program you could subscribe to. The guy was nice enough but told me the USDA is getting away from that except for municipal and institution bird problems and was at that time only doing ag Starling control in one county (not mine, of course) in the state; but he did have the agent stop out to give me some hints. I appreciated it but none were very helpful, although did find out that the USDA uses an Avitrol version for control that is stronger than the average certified person can buy. Avitrol is a deterrent that makes them sick so they leave. If that concept would work I'd just give all the birds Chipotle gift cards. I haven't found any fly bait type suggestions but, although very tempting, I don't want a bunch of birds falling out of the sky in public, expecially non-targeted birds, and then have the animal rights fruit loops exploiting it for all it's worth. If you Google Avitrol you'll see a bunch of petitions to outlaw Avitrol. Instead of signing a petition maybe these keyboard activists could come to the farm and each catch a dozen Starlings and take them home, or volunteer to clean and disinfect everything in the barn twice a day, or just Paypal me some money to pay for all the Starlings' destruction. So after going off on this rant I'll get to the point: Last week I ordered a Bird Gard Pro. It is suppose to be here tomorrow and I plan on setting it up immediately. I'll report back my results and update as necessary. Keep in mind that these Starlings in my barn are pretty entrenched so it will be a good test for this device.

Northern Kansas | We used a bait that we put out in bowls and does a pretty good job. It's called Starlicide. I think it's made by Purina i'm not sure on that but they eat it and after a while it seems to slow down the problem. It takes a little bit for em to get used to the bait but once they start eating it it sure seemed to work for us.

Ridgway, IL | It seems to continue to work, best I can tell. We haven't had birds this year like we did last year... so it just hasn't been an issue. I guess because we haven't had lasting snow. One bit of advice, make sure you're mounting the things out of reach of the cattle, they get to trying to chew on the speaker cable!!!! Grr I have the birdguard super pro. I like the speaker enclosure better than the one that has 4 separate speakers.

Van Wert, OHIO | We had them bad, have some cracked corn with some kind of poisen and they are all gone. Didn't really want them all gone caused they do eat bugs in the summer. But they are all gone. I'll have to see what it's called.

NE NE | Here in Nebraska the wildlife service has a few people that you can have come in to poison them. If you don't, they will always come back the next year-- that's just what they do.
