Looking at either a small compact or possibly subcompact tractor with a loader and backhoe. Cant find much in the way of comparisons online. They are all put on by one of the brands and of course, the brand that sponsors the comparison always wins for some reason. I have most all brands local to me and service will be the same at all dealers. LS, JD, Kubota, NH, Branson, Mahindra, etc. Not worried about mowers or much pto work, but want the best backhoe and loader operation. Which brand and model?

the new holland "boomer" series have had good reviews. I prefer the old deere 955. bulletproof

NW MN | Go to tractorbynet.com. That site is devoted to compact tractors and they hash this very question over and over again. Seriously though there is oodles of good info there. I have owned Kubota, LS, and now Deere and plan on keeping the Deere for a long time. Both prior machines were good.

Mid-Missouri | If these compact tractors are like comparing commercial lawn mowers, kubota gets my vote. I know little about these newer small tractors though. Would a compact rubber-track-hoe work?

Pedee, Oregon | The JD 110 TLB's are a pretty good machine. I have a good friend with one and have used it myself several times. It seems much better balanced than a couple of Kubota small tractors with backhoe attachments I have been around.

Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot | I agree. Handy thing. Not sure how much of a tractor it would be, but nice loader/hoe. Only bad thing about a Deere 110 is everybody wants one so they are usually a little pricey. I think there are some Kubotas that are similar. I've got a year to get a place paid off and I'm buying one.

It seems much better balanced than a couple of Kubota small tractors with backhoe attachments I have been around. I tend to agree, JD110's are designed as a true compact TLB, along with the Termite series and Kabota. Compare the spec's of their hydraulics' and break out forces . . ... http://www.terramite.com/ Here's a comparison - https://www.kubota.com/assets/product/comps/L45/L45_comps.pdf Although, this isn't part of your question - If you have a skidsteer, I would consider a dedicated compact track excavator over a TLB . . . ...

South Texas | I had a 110 tlb. Tough little tractor. Made to be used with a backhoe, not just a little tractor with a 3-pt backhoe on it. Much nicer than a skid loader for loading/feeding hay, and anything where you might need to get off with a load on the forks.

Springfield, MN | I am running a Farmall 50B CVT with loader, backhoe and use a Loftness 7 foot snow blower. In just over 2 years I have 580 hours on the meter. I have had some minor electrical problems early on but all seem to be fixed now. It starts good. I like the roomy cab easy to get into. Air and heater work well. For my use I want the cab. It will go through a 8 ft high door. Last year I bought a tree/brush puller and it is worth it also. Prior to this I had a NH DX25D. You want a tractor at least this big to run a backhoe. I have extended a lot of tile runs with such an outfit. With these you need to get off and get into the tractor to move forward. The backhoes for these tractors mount on a framework underneath for strength. Easy to put on. Does Case still make this compact tractor, I have not checked that out. I just like the 50B and use it for everything. I have even pulled a 300 bu full gravity box from field to dryer. Edited by Russell 2/14/2016 07:43

There's one in the service lot at the local pap'e dealer. It does look like an awesome rig. But the one here has a broken crank and some other engine issues. I dont think the owner is going to fix it. I asked to be on a list if the owner decides to sell it as is. But I dont really need another project right now so.........

Texas | I had a kubota M59 and loved it. It is a not really a small machine though. Smaller than a full Size hoe yes but not a compact or subcompact. That machine always amazed me and with the hydrostatic tranny it was so easy to use. I used it almost everyday for something. I bought it from my moms neighbor after her husband passed away. The machine was 7 years old but had less than 50 hours on it when I got it. One day a guy stopped by my place and asked me if I would consider selling it. I told him everything is for sale for the right price. He made me an offer that I couldn't refuse and I sold it to him. I took that money and added some to it and bought a deere 310SJ full size backhoe with cab. While the 310 is a much more powerful machine it is big and clumsy. I haven't found it near as useful as my old kubota.

Mid Michigan | Yes, good stuff with the Masseys. I have the Agco Orange colored version of a Massey. Made by Iseki in Japan. I don't have the backhoe because I have a trencher with a backhoe on it. I was shopping for a Kubota and they had the little Agco on the lot and it fit very well in my garage so I bought it. So far so good. The new Massey in the pics is on sale for $15,700. Looks like a nice package for the money. (Massey 1710 $15,700.jpg) (massey 1710 backhoe.jpg) (massey 1710 platform.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]() ![]() ![]()

you're right on with the jd 955--or any of that series 6-9 kind of like a jd 4020--take care of it and it's good for the long haul.
