Subject: Help me identify this loader joystick control

West Central Iowa
I am needing a cable for this loader joystick control and can not find anyone that has it or that can custom make it. The wire cable threaded ends are 10-32 thread which is small for a valve control cable, most are 1/4" or 5/16" Also the threaded ends on the cable housing are 2 different sizes, with one being 5/8"-18 NF thread and the other one being 7/16-20 NF thread. From what I have been told most 10-32 cable ends are going to have a 7/16-20 threaded end and a 5/8"-18 can not be installed on this small of cable.

The joystick is on a Case-IH 5140 tractor with a Westendorf TA-28 loader. I have check with Westendorf and they say they have only used 2 different styles of Joysticks and they have send me drawings of their joysticks and cables and neither one is appears correct.

Here is a picture of the joystick and of the valve it is attached to.

Thanks!

I have googled and called at least 6 different venders and custom cable makers. The problem is finding a cable with the 5/8-18 thread on the one end of the cable housing with the 10-32 end.

It looks like I am either going have to figure out who made this thing or make a step up adapter for the one end.

I expect you have talked to Baum hydraulic already. They can make cables like hoses.

I have same problem and my parts told me that I would have buy the whole Joy stick control and cable as a unit because CNH doesn't offer individual parts for this assembly.

Yep, talked to Baum. I also sent it to Force America in the Twin Cites and they could not make it.

So are you saying it was made by Case-IH?

That's the same valve that is on our 5120 maxxum, we have a case 510 loader. From what I can see of your joystick base it looks the same as ours, it would appear someone has just changed the handle/knob part. I can get you pictures in the morning, but I would try your case ih dealer.

Pretty sure it's part number 1980794c1. Kind of pricey Messicks $165.64. We had a new one hanging in the shop. It was off a 5140 with a TA28.

Does the switch in the handle go to an electro/hydraulic splitter valve separate from the loader valve? If so, some one probably added that handle separate. The joy stick and mount and the PFC valve all look standard for the 5XXX series tractors. Agree with the others about Case-IH stock part but pricey. Is the cable shot or just needs adjusted at the spool?

OK thanks for all of the replies.....they were very helpful. It is a joystick supplied by Case-IH for the 51xx series tractors with the 510 loader. The part number (1980794C1) given above appears to be correct one for the cable. Parts guy thought it may of been supplied to Case-IH by Great Bend Mfg.

I took this cable to a different Case-IH dealer several weeks ago and they looked at what they had for cables in stock and could not match it up and told me they had never seen a cable made like it and they did not think it was a joystick supplied by Case-IH. It does seem to be a pretty light cable for a joystick valve and a goofy design from what I was told when I went to have one custom made.

Thanks for the help!

I do not remember what the cable end at the joy-stick looks like. The end at the valve on ours is a regular fine threaded stem that had either a standard clevis to connect to the spool or used one of the drums like these :

or

Do you have a picture of what is special about yours?

Forgot to link the cables:

Might be cheaper to replace the bonnet to be able to use a less pricey cable
