I am looking for a good quality am-fm radio for my John Deere 8410. The factory radio has very poor reception. Any ideas?

Kenwood. So called heavy duty or other ag/construction radios are a scam IMO. Especially Jensen. Delphis are good just pricey.

I have had good luck with Pioneer, cheap Walmart ones, and the REIs that come in new Kubotas.

The Internet

You can go out today and buy a new Fiesta for a 10th of the price of a decent FWA and it will come with a fantastic radio with Bluetooth, various ways to plug in various devices, DAB radio, great speakers and a load of other toys. Yet tractors come with crap radios with tinny speakers for 10 times the money.

In the main, after market radios are for young boys in modified cars, with stupid flashy graphics and tiny buttons you need tooth picks to press.

We put an REI in our 4440 after the stock radio quit. It cam with a new bezel and all so it would fit a din radio. Other than that, any pioneer, kenwood, jvc, sony or such should last a long time.

Just put an REI in a 4250 and really like it so far. It is a basic radio with the weather channels it has larger buttons which i like and im really impressed with the reception it came with the adapter so it was a plug and play installation except for the memory wire which I just jumped into the dome light switch. Direct from REI it was about $180.

I had two REI's in two separate tractors. Both failed in less than five years. Now have the above mentioned over rated Jensen HD's. Been good so far.

We had one issue with an REI and they fixed it no questions asked no charge. All I was out was the $12 shipping. They do stand behind their product. Hard to not ever have an issue. I refuse to put store bought radios in not only because of the wiring issue but the button and controls are horrible to try to run on a tractor. Big buttons rule

X2, also alot of the store bought ones can't handle the vibrations of ag equipment all day long and fail rather quickly. Also having said that my 4960 I just traded had a Sony after market CD player in it when I bought it and I put another 5-6k hours on it and radio still worked great when It left here minus the cd player but who uses those anymore lol

Any regular DIN size radio will fit. I am partial to pioneer or kenwood radios, seem to be easy and simple to work and have had great luck on the AM side. REI and JVC are overpriced in my opinion, Dont seem any more heavy duty than regular radios, or at least the regular radios last just fine and have more power and better audio features. Want a real upgrade then get a set of name brand but cheaper speakers and you will be amazed how much better the sound is. You will have less money in speakers and radio then just the Jensen or REI radio alone. In a time crunch I put a JVC from walmart in the 7800 and hated it, setting the presets was awful, Sound was great but presets alone made me take it out. I will have to look what i bought for sure but i think it was a volkswagon wiring harness adapter kit for it and it would plug right into the tractor harness, no splicing into the factory harness necessary. Will try to double check to verify

Just wondering does it matter if you adjust the balance right to left or front to rear? Is your antenna tight? I have had these problems with ours makes It sound poor.

What wiring issues?

The buttons suck on them if you are the type of person that needs preset buttons. You can get them without preset buttons and you just flick the knob to scroll through your presets. Not always as nice. I don't scroll through presets really, there's one radio station I can tolerate for a short amount of time before I switch to Bluetooth either streaming music or just playing what's stored on my phone.

I did get some wired marine remotes to make it easier to run them, they have huge buttons and you can mount them where ever it is convenient.

Id look into an antenna issue first. My 7810 had poor reception so I put a new radio in and it wasn't any better. Took the old radio from the 7810, put it in the 4240 and it gets every station available. Had the same issue with an 8300.

Thanks everyone for the ideas.
My main problem is reception. The 2 stations that come in on FM sound fine on all four speakers.
AM reception is terrible. I'll check the antenna.

The radio may be the problem, but check the antenna first. If the antenna has the coil spring, bend it over and look inside the coil. There is a braided strap in there, and I bet it is broken. I have seen it on every Deere tractor I own. Easy to replace, and usually fix the problem.

When we got our 7800 the am reception was terrible, we complained to the dealer and they found some kind of service bulletin on the antenna that solved the problem.
