Subject: Krause Disc model?

Columbus, TX
Talked to a farmer I know who has some equipment laying around that they are eventually just going to scrap. He has this Krause disc that has been sitting for about 6 years. He said to just make him an offer on it. Went and looked at it today and there is quite a bit of rust in some places, no scrapers, but he said it has new blades and bearings. It's 28 ft. Is there anything yall can tell me just by looking at these crappy pictures? I couldn't find a tag anywhere and every sticker is long gone. Thanks

Also wondering if yall think a 7150 Magnum (215 hp) could pull this disc? I'm in sand ground. Farmer said he used to pull it with a JD 4840, but I'd like to get more thoughts from yall.

Looks like a 4900. They are 8-12k around here
But you can't count on all new hoses and maybe tires. If he was gonna scrap offer 1500. Be more than scrap value now. Your magnum should be find in sand ground 4840s are high hp but they can't get it all to the ground

It is a 1900. I have its twin but plain blades. If blades are like new $6000? I guarantee the welds will not stand up to a 7150 Magnum. Metal services has put a few gussets and braces on ours.
I just looked closer and that disk is not a rock-flex. If you have rocks you are done looking and move on.

I agree. Looks similar to my 32ft. 1950 model, but mine is a rock flex version.

I have a 25 ft Krause 1927 rock flex that was new in 1980, no welds any where except tongue, that tree didn't bow down low enough. Have replaced several bearings, 3 complete sets of blades. Tongue is different than mine.

If the disk has been stored outdoors for 6 years, you probably have some corrosion on the inner race or seal seat on the gang bearings. When you start using this disk, the corroded inner race could quickly wear the bearing seals. I think you can figure out the rest of this story.

The wings have a single tire. How hard would it be to add a second tire on the wings? I think dual tires on the wings would be nice in sandy soil. Also, the linkage between the center and wing rockshafts can be hard to adjust and a real wear point. The threaded rod on the rockshaft connecting linkage must turn in the connecting sleeve when the wings fold and unfold. If this linkage is really rusted, it could break the first time you unfold the wings.

With a little cutting torch and welder work, you can adapt scraper bars and scrapers from other brands of disks. Can you find something in a salvage yard with decent scrapers, scraper bars and mounts?

Not sure of model number, but good disc. You may have to change a tire, hydraulic hose , and disc bearing or so due to your high humidity. If bearings on discs are greasable, grease them, run a little and grease again. May need to repack wheels, but your Case will pull it there if not black ground. Discs alone are $20 each, figure cost from there.

I looked closer and hitch is different than my disk. Mine has just one spring. Where the one in the picture has center and two brace tubes mine just has center tube and two flat straps about 1/2 inch thick. Frame looks the same otherwise. Person who said model 1950 may be right. I did not notice lack of scrapers! If you can get by without scrapers and do not need C spring standards it will work.

It is an earlier one, and frankly the new parts are worth close to, or more than, the disc itself.

If he was going to scrap it, and he is a good friend and could use the money, IMO the magic number of 1,000 might be right. I would try for 250 to 750 at an auction, especially if it was wide spaced and we could junk it for the wide spools, but maybe the 1000 would make him feel all warm and fuzzy and may benefit you in the end. (Rent his ground? :) )

Good luck!
