Ran across one of these 4x4 tractors that seemed reasonably priced, would mostly be used when after hours help arrives. Has a Cummins engine @ 425 HP. Seems like cheap HP for the money. Would one expect to take a beating if you decide to get rid of it later? Seems these are rare birds. What dealer would work on something like this? Parts available? TIA. East central Iowa, Camanche, Iowa | They are like my N6 Gleaner. Great combine once I "Hyperized" it but I will never get much for it when I sell it. However, I do not to have much in it but it performs as well or better than the high priced spread. I buy equipment to use but they price I pay includes the potential resale of the equipment and take advantage of that discount increasing my cash flow and cost effectiveness of said equipment. Parts support from AGCO would be my greatest concern. It also depends how much they used "off the shelve" components.

Jewell County KS | I've had a 8425 for several years now. I have not had any trouble getting parts thru Agco when I needed them. Resale value is probably not the best but I bought it to use not for the resale. N-14, 18 spd roadranger, Raba axles and not alot of electronics. It has been a fairly trouble free tractor. I've had to do a throw out bearing a few years ago and I put a radiator in last spring. My only problem is now it needs tires. 30.5x32's $$$$$

Seneca Kansas 66538 | Have a 8360, power to weight ratio is excellent and does good on fuel because of the simple power to ground path of the power train. Cab filtration could be much better but nothing I can't handle. Worst thing on these tractors is the engine air intake tube on the back of the cab. Going to move mine down forward in front of the front axle on the frame rail as others have done. I still love it, costs penny's to run and downtime is minimal.

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Resale will always be less but then that is why it looks good to you now. Your getting a tractor cheaper up front so if it is cheaper later you really haven't lost anything.

The seller told me the tractor is a 1998 and has 3400 hrs. Will take $49,000. Has almost new tires and 400 hrs on a engine overhaul due to head gasket leaking. N-14 Cummins, 18 speed manual shift trans, 20.8 x R42 Michelin's. 4 outlets. Clamp on duals. Seller said it has a N-14 engine but tractor tests show an 855.Some paint fading. Do you think one could buy a JD 8960-8970 for that money and have a better tractor in the end? Edited by IH_always 12/6/2015 17:02

Jewell County KS | The 8425 had the 60 series or N-14 27 gpm PFC hyd on the N-14 pump driven from timing gear. 35 gpm above serial number 100106 35 gpm PFC hyd on Detroit belt drive off the crank shaft 8360 was N-14 only

We too had an 8360 at one time. I really wish we had that machine back some days because it was always one you could rely on.

Jewell County KS | I think so. I looked at one several years ago and the pump hung off a bracket on the left side of engine.

Seneca Kansas 66538 | Have had a few people drive in the yard and say, "Oh wow an Agcostar, don't see many of those around. How do you like it?" Usually an interesting conversation. If you can't handle what other people think, well you know where that goes.

Jewell County KS | If it helps you out any I also have a 5200 Massey with a 12.7 that has the hyd pump mounted to the accessory drive. Open Center and not a huge pump. I may be able to figure out how big it is if you need any info. IIRC it is a "commercialtech" pump. I don't know how big of a pump the accessory drive would handle.
