Can you add on a differential lock to axles of a truck? Already have the power divider lock looking to add on differential locks to the axles. Is there some aftermarket company that has a kit to put in or even a limited slip version.

Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

I added diff locks to my truck. I was changing rear-end ratios anyways, so got the gears and carrier with locking diffs. Depending on how old your truck is, you may have to notch out a place where the carrier bolts into. You also need to get a new axle with longer splines for the collar to slide on. I didn't think it was a huge project.

I've done it before. You need a new diff head. Can't just add the locker part. As mentioned the axle housing may have to be notched, not really a big deal, just need a torch and grinder. You will also need a new axle shaft as the locking one is double splined.

Get the model number of your diff and look for used or reman units in your ratio with a locker. Going to spend around 3 to 6K to do both axles depending if you go used or reman.

My rearend guy adds a "no slip" to my rears when I have then worked on. I only do the rear axle, he says most every farm truck he works on puts them on. Parts is about $800. IIRC

It locks automatically when spinning.

A Detroit locker is different then a limited slip or posi rear end. Detroit locker is locked all the time and comes unlocked when turning where a limited slip only locks when one wheel spins faster then the other causing the clutch pack on it to tighten up from centripical force and provide power to the opposite wheel. Clear as mud? :)
