East Central South Dakota
Looking at getting an sts 12 mainly for sidedress purposes and oerhaps a little spraying. Looking at 2009 and newer machines. Anything to know on these? What should i look out for? Would like an ag leader equipped machines, would like integrated autosteer. Whats the main differences between the older machines and the new (2014+) machines other than the cab? Would like all wheel steer, any major worries there? Sorry for all the questions, but havent been around many hagies. Thanks!

Stay away from 2013 models too many bugs.. currently have a 2008 STS 14 for Sale with about 1900 hrs. has 120ft boom set up on Ag Leader Integra.. Great machine.. Boom a little on the Weak Side but everything works... Have been around Rogators for 10 years and the last 5 years around Hagies and I wouldn't go back to a Rear Boom for the Love of Money...

we just bought a 2013, from what I've researched it's mostly just the air cleaner design isn't the best and requires the filters to be maintained every 50 hours. I know they have some issues with the DPF portion of teir 4 and all wheel steer but hagie told us they had those issues resolved with software updates. Any machine is likely to have a bug here and there, for the money the 2013 was right in our budget compared to jumping up to a 2014+ machine.. Hagie even gave us a 1 year warranty on the machine..

It's either 2012 or 2013 that they started putting the hydraulic valves in the from the factory for integrated autosteer. Most 2013 machines were equipped with all wheel steer as well but its something they can add on. The older machines have the 'delta boom' it's it's 120' which is all steel and has not had that great of performance. Newer machines have the aluminum boom which if your going 120's that's what you want..

Big change between an '09 and a '10. I think they went to a closed center hyd system and a different cab. If you are looking for a 30 foot NTB I have one to sell, just haven't listed it yet.

Any issues with the older 90 and 100 ft booms? Are hagies capable of high speed while spraying? Say 18-20mph? Any issues with the NTB's?

I was told they cut off at 19mph. Previous owner of mine did something to eliminate that but Hagie would not let it out of the shop until it was fixed. Boom on mine is holding up fine but I don't spray over 14 mph. Only issue with the NTBs is if they have the crap Yetter coulters. They will be broke before they get close to worn out. I have ag systems on mine.

I have a STS 12 2013 now before that I ran a 2011 before that a 2009 I also demoed STS 14 with 120 ft boom (older steel style) and a STS 16 with 100 foot boom. My machines have always been 100 ft booms. I didn't liked the bigger 14 or 16 models they seemed to be underpowered and real heavy, made some tracks in fields. The older 120 foot steel boom I could have demoed it for 2 days but it was such a POS as soon as I got tank emptied from 1st load, I parked it at end of field jumped in my old sprayer. The 2009 and 2011 models were good but the intigraded auto steer was far from perfect, never had any skips but my tracks in the field were never straight, it was always wandering. They fixed that in either 2012 or 13, which now my 13 is perfect.
Also in either 2012 or 2013 they added an option of Hi Torque wheel motors which I would highly suggest. The standard models don't have much low end or slow speed torque, if you stop in wet ground and ur tires sink down 6-8 inches u will not be able to get sprayer to jump out of the tracks. As long as u are moving they have good power but they will not spin the tires and if u get to wet areas u will sometime basically power out and need a pull. Now on the hi torque option is impressive, in the last 3 years I have not gotten stuck or needed a pull once, although I do leave some bad tracks in the field at times.
I have never had many issues with break downs on any of my sprayers and will also say that Hagie is great for coming out and doing updates to my machines. Even this year they sent out mechanic 3 different times to update a few things that I didn't really think needed changeing. The last time was to replace hose clamps on turbo, mechanic said a few guys had trouble so they went around and redid all the machines with new clamps. I will say the air filter on my 2013 needs extra service and needs replacing more than it should but that probably means its doing a good job of filtering.

We have a 9 with 90' boom. Really like the machine. Main thing for side dress with that year is with 14" tires, they are 124" on center. Makes it harder to keep on the row. It really doesn't seem like much, but it is very noticeable. For wanting to side dress I would definitely look for one where they fixed that.
