| Has anyone owned or ran and able to compare the two heads? We have owned a Macdon for 4 years and are curious about the IH head. Let me know what you think, TIA. Ryan |

SW Illinois | We've owned a MacDon for several years but we demoed a 3162 this fall. We ran them both in late double-crop beans with damp straw conditions. We also ran them both in some pretty hilly ground to get a good comparison. We were actually very impressed with what the 3162 would do. It cut very clean at 8 mph and the belt speed is higher than the MacDon, so it could handle higher ground speeds. We think we would like it more in wheat than the MacDon because it doesn't have all the flex between the head and the adaptor, allowing a smoother cut height. The drawback is in short beans. Sometimes they bunch a little before going in or fall out if the head is raised before they get to the belt. I've always hated the thought of using an air reel, but we think that could make an awesome head out of a 3162. We have to decide now whether we'll buy a new MacDon or a new 3162 and it looks to be a pretty tough decision. |

Southern Illinois | when properly setup and adjusted they out cut a Macdon. The adjustable cutterbar pressure helps with skidding and dragging up in damp and wheat stubble conditions. The down side I have with them is you have to run the reel more aggressive and work it harder than the Macdon. The faster you drive the better job they do getting beans on the belt.
EDIT: running the reel harder causes way to much shatter for me, we have gotten accustomed to not hearing beans hit the windshield with MacDon./

Northwest Iowa | My CaseIH salesman told me in confidence to get the MacDon. He said when you spend the money for a draper, make sure you get the one that he does not have to hear a guy bellyache about. That said..I have not run either one. |

NEIN | Yes that is what my salesman said as well. They do not even try to sell the real case ones. |

North of Iowa | That's kind of funny, because my CIH dealer won't sell another Macdon. Every one of his guys that owned a Macdon and went to the new CIH has never went back to the Macdon. Must be the area. |

NE KS | I really like the looks of the 3162, mostly the flexable cutter bar rather than the rigid bar on the macdon. In our country if you want to cut terraces and uneven ground a flexable bar is a must. Worst thing about the 3162 is that it is made by case and is most likely a large pile of junk! When they were first sent out to demo we were supposed to get one, but they couldn't keep it running more than few hours at a time. CNH took it back after only a couple days. Looks like the 3162 shares some parts with the 3020 so that should be enough warning to stay away. |

Maryland | If flex is what you want, oughta consider an gleaner or massey 9250. been running 1 on a flagship for 3 years. love it. Hydraulic down pressure, flex SCH cutterbar, tilt. Only thing not good is on the wider heads the flex cutterbar really snips the reel teeth. Be nice if it had the twin reel like the Mac Dons. |

We looked into that. The $9000 adapter scared us. We didn't want to be SOL if we didn't like the header. Did you buy this set up new? What did your adapter cost? What size of header? Be really nice to get some more info. Always heard the cutter bars were flimsy but don't know first hand. |

NEIN | you are back to a flexible cutter bar not a flexing backbone. Huge difference and much more maintenance than a Macdon. Only place the floating cutterbar style will be better is in table top flat fields with very small changes in terrain. |

8mph really? Are they that much better than the 40' 2162's? Hell we might get 4 MAYBE 4.5 once in a great while and that's it. Otherwise we push the beans over and yes that's with a brand new sickle bar. |

Eastern ontario | Had a 30ft draper from Case new in 2010.really liked the way it fed but the lack of flex in no-till didn't suit me. Traded it after 2 years on a 3020 with an air reel. Last year wanted to demo the new 3162 to see how much difference the flex made. Seems they were always sold before they got to me. Ended up buying a new 3162 over the winter as everyone seemed to be raving about them. Trade in my other 3020 with an air reel. Worst fall I have ever had. Hydraulic filter head installed backwards so it sucked out the paper center from the filter and belts only ran half speed. Still probably still paper in the tube. Reel has to be adjusted every 2 days as it gets out of alignment and starts to knock. Can lift either end of the knife with 2 fingers but takes both arms to lift the middle. Instead of a frown or a smile the knife looks like an M. But the worst thing is the distance from the knife to the table. Short or medium height beans sit there and the reel has to be kept all the way back and down to keep feeding. Beans constantly hitting the windshield as you need a higher reel speed and can't use the fore and aft to get the down plants. Lift the head at the end and everything slides off so there are windrows of beans on the headland. Also no rock pocket like the MacDon so ate a couple of stones. Been farming 37 years and made many mistakes but this is by far the worst piece of equipment I have ever bought. Took it back to the dealer at the end of the season to be gone over and don't ever plan on it coming back to my farm. Try before you buy and if they won't let you try don't buy. Major issues with this design. |

SW Illinois | Yep, 8mph and still cutting clean. We're picky about how clean a field is cut and it was still doing a nice job. We've been maxing out around 4-4.5 with a 40' 2162 also. The belts can't move fast enough. The 3162 belts really move. |

East central Indiana | It's not the belts that get us. It's the cutter bar. Ya just won't cut them off. We just push them over. We do plant thick and use fungicide |
SW Illinois | Same here on population and fungicide. We have green stems pretty bad. We were cutting double crops with the 3162 though, so no green stems. |
East central Indiana | What's the difference between the 2162&3162 to allow for faster cutting?? We have a 7120. |
