What kind of oil pressure should a person expect out of this engine. Has 25 at idle and 35 at 1600. Thanks

On most any engine, 25 at idle would be just fine, but 35 at 1600 would be a little concerning. Are these readings taken with HOT oil?

I ran an AC 7040 for a few years until bossman sold it. It never had great oil pressure, about 25 at wot. The neighbor who bought it took the pan off, oil pump pickup tube was loose, almost falling off. Got it tight again, pressure went way up!

35 to 55 psi at WIDE OPEN THROTTLE with HOT oil.............hot oil means in the field pulling it hard for at least 30 minutes.

When engine is at 180 and 2300 have around 40 psi. When idling at 850 its at 15. This is a mechanical gauge I put in the cab. Do you lose some with all that hose on there?

When you first fire up the engine and within a minute or two run it at full throttle, I'd expect to see the 55 psi number. That is where the oil pressure regulator opens. If you don't see that 55 psi number, adjust the pressure regulator in 2 or 3 turns. It is located on the oil filter side of the block and takes a 3/4" socket. As the oil gets hot, the regulator stays closed all the time and your pressure is dependent upon oil pump volume and how many leaks there are inside the engine. Straight 30 weight oil will carry about 3 psi more than 15W-40 oil when hot.

I put new rods and mains In this thing and didnt do cam bushings oil replace oil pump. Judging by the way the rods and mains looked I didnt feel the need to pull cam and thought oil pump would be fine too. Was no oil gauge on it before just the light so I bought a new gauge and was just kind of surprised at how low it was at idle. Didnt know where it was at before. How hot should the oil cooler and oil filters get? These will get to 180 with a temp gun on them. This is just driving it around the yard.

Well, I've never used a heat gun, but I'd expect at least 180 degrees, because that's how hot the coolant is flowing thru the cooler. Engine oil temps in the field would be 180 to 220 degrees. You cannot adjust oil pressure at an idle. It is what it is. You can only set the maximum pressure when the oil is COLD, and that is 55 psi. You can adjust that COLD setting for 80 psi and it will never change what it is at an idle.

So maybe should have done the cam bushings and installed a new pump? Do you usually put in new pumps?

I've never replaced an oil pump....ever. I don't see where you have a problem.....spec is 35 to 55 psi at wide open throttle. You have that.

Is it normal to be low like that at 850? Like I said never had a gauge on it before so just making me a little nervous since I have a gauge on it now. Out of sight out of mind I guess. Lol

Anything more than 15 psi is what I would call normal at 850 RPM.
