Minnesota | So with late season application in full swing in most areas and everyones winter project list is getting started. I think a lot of guys have a winter project to solve late nitrogen application. Now what kind of designs do people have for liquid/dry systems to run late in the year? Drop tubes, y drops, coulter system, high clearance spinners, etc. Whats been working and what hasn't? I love engineering in the shop with my old man. We've made something every winter and will make a drop system this winter but just wondering on some designs pros/cons with pictures if possible.... Edited by barsfarm 7/6/2015 19:47

Amherst WI | Here's what I did. 60" centers and about $75. It took me longer to order the components than it did to build and install it. Corn has a large root system. That's why I think these will work as good as Y-Drops only for thousands less. Morris, IL | Yeah i have few ideas for trying something, hope to get a home made Y drop build to try for this year sometime even if it's just water as i think we're sitting pretty good with N this year. But i'd love to figure a way to build a skip row 20-30' coulter bar for JD 6500, but I don't think it would work. Edited by NEILFarmer 7/6/2015 22:09

I used the same 3/8 hose but wrapped it once around the boom and zip tied it. I also slid the hose inside a foot long half inch pipe and duct taped it to the bottom of the hose. When I didn't have the weight on the bottom the hose would ride up on the leaves of tall corn and burn it. Most of the corn won't make it to crop insurance levels but I couldn't face reality.
