I gotta buddy who just bought this ford 8N tractor from his uncles estate sale. im trying to help him figure out who the manufacturer was of this high crop kit. im pretty sure its not a stilts kit. any help would be most appreciated. I have only seen one more of this kind of high crop kit on an 8N ford on the internet.

NW Washington | That looks like it was made in a welding fab shop somewhere. Check the Ford section of Yesterday's Tractors site or N-News. http://n-news.com/ http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-8N-Tractor-Parts/

Wallis, TX | Not what I'd call a hi-crop but rather a sprayer conversion. I've seen several over the years.

Franklinton, LA | Gotcher Engineering and Manufacturing in Clarksdale, MS once made a kit to convert 8N Fords to high clearance sprayers. Their kit did not look as good as the one in the photo. By the way, you should replace the glass jar on the air intake pre-cleaner before using this rig.

NE LA. across from the fiberglass Charolais bull | Looks like a Barrentine sprayer conversion made in Greenwood? MS. The second seat was for the guy pulling on the boom rope to fold. Old Hahn Highboys sometimes had a farmer installed second seat for the boom man.

Looks different than the tractor stilts on this page http://oldtractorpictures.com/Ford/ See some mention about a few high clearance ones in cane areas ? Couple others on this page. Could also make it more unique with an adapter to put in a Ford flathead V-8 or a GM 4.3 L V6

Did they produce kits to fit Ferguson tractors as well, Darryl?

Franklinton, LA | I know Gotcher made the Ford conversion kits in the early 1950s as well as flame cultivators and cotton trailers. I do not recall seeing kits for other makes of tractors. KBH got started in the 1960s and Gotcher slowly imploded. Maybe some of the older people at KBH in Clarksdale can answer your question. In the late 1950s and early 1960s Tom Barrentine at Barrentine Mfg. Co. in Greenwood, MS made a high clearance sprayer. Some of these sprayers used a 4-cylinder Continental engine plus a car transmission, differential, steering gear, brakes and other parts from local junk yards. It seems that Mr. Tom preferred function over style! His equipment always had a lot of character. When I visited the Barrentine plant about 1975 Mr. Tom was building a 4-wheel drive tractor with a 3-point lift on the back, middle and front. He also had hydraulic outlets on the back, front and middle. He either died or retired before he completed the tractor.
