northwest tennessee | Are these very hard to put in? Do I drain fluid or run down hill? |

west central Iowa | I just did 4650. I was very glad I drained rear end. I found old Hyd hose with correct end and ran oil right into buckets. There was a Hyd oil screen that might have gotten knocked off, if I didn't know it was there. Once unit in vise, seal was easy to change. |

west central Iowa | I looked at our 2955, a little different than 4650. Jdparts.com showed parts breakdown. You may get away with just removing cover and changing seal. Service mgr should tell you how to do it right. Good luck! |

northwest tennessee | Ok thanks. I didn't know what you were talking about by removing the unit. I thought I had read somewhere that you pull the shaft and could then replace the seal but may be wrong. Now I am talking about the seal that goes around the pto shaft.

middle TN | I think that seal is just an o-ring. Should be just like changing from 540 to 1000, nose it off in a ditch and whip out the vice-grips. Pull the shaft, pick out old o-ring and pop in the new, take the barrel of an ink-pen and roll around to seat the new one. Easy from here:)

If it's the same as the 2950 (I think it is) parking on a sharp incline is how the manual says to swap between the 540 to 1000 output shafts. You shouldn't have to drain the oil at all unless you live where it's really flat I guess :) |
