I have tried to do some research on this. Talked to John Deere with out much help. I was told some of the early hood were made from a soybeans product then changed later on to correct problems. One person used 5003 R7 Another person used Xenon 1102 polycarbonate rod and he said it was still holding good. Hope this helps and you have better luck than I have had trying to figure this out. I checked all over the back of a hood but couldn't find any codes like other products have. You might Google these rods and find some information . If you find any helpful information let me know.

We got somebody to weld on the hoods of our 8330. Not sure what he used. Those hoods are crap. A lot of Deere plastic hoods with over about 4000 hours are cracked. They are really expensive too. Decided the mediocre weld will have to work .

East Central Indiana | I took this pic at a deserted booth at the 2015 Mid-America Truck show in Louisville. It says 8000 hood, but is obviously a 8x20 hood. Manufactured by Sabic, or at least the resin appears to be manufactured by Sabic, i don't know. Edited by deereboy8400 5/12/2015 22:15 (8020 hood.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

north central ky | Yes, I finally found the code. It is pc+Pbt, I used a polycarbonate rod and it seemed to weld good and not discolor. I guess time will tell.

north central ky | Yep, you beat me to it. That is the code that I found and when I looked it up it was called xenoy. Thank for the replies. I just hope it hold because I'm sure that hood won't be cheap. I was aiming to take a pic after I fixed it but I forgot. I welded it,sanded it, and hit it with a shot of paint and you can barely see it. Edited by poor loser 5/12/2015 22:27 (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

north central ky | This is the welder I got. It comes with plastic charts and different techniques with different plastics. It also comes with different rods. It has been handy to have, I have fixed corn head snouts and a leaking fuel tank with it and hoefully a hood. (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Way north central indiana | Had a big hole busted in mine and couldn't even find all the pieces. Checked on cost of new hood and you can forget that. Finally took the cheap route and plastered over it with Gorilla tape. Might even spray the repair with JD green this summer.

Dearfield Co. | I asked a rep that services a body shop about it and he recommended a Flexor product. I don't have the tubes any more but it was a epoxy of sort that all the tubes went in the gun like a caulking gun. I didn't like the way it mixed out of the gun so I stirred it better and it worked good. I used the remaining on a ford semi trucks side skirts and it worked there as well. I can't remember if it was a 2 or 3 part epoxy and I can find the gun tonite

I got the same welder you have at Arizona tools for some cheaper. Where did you find the welding rod? I am not having any luck finding it. http://www.arizonatools.com/best-sellers/detail/Mini-Weld-Model-7-Plastic-Welder-w/URE5700HT

I am going to order these and see what happens. I wanted to say there is a body putty for plastic and when painting there is a product called Flex you put in the pains so it will not peal off. There are some good painters on this forum that might give us some suggestions Edited by BFarms2 5/14/2015 08:03

How did your weld repair hold up? Do you have any advice on the repair method to use. I have an 8420 with a 6" crack in the left hand wheel well near the heat shield for the exhaust manifold. Thanks in advance
