| Posted in machinery talk too but the usage is geared more towards livestock and I like your guys opinions too!
My buddy is looking for cheapish HP he found a 8400t with 10k+ hours 75% under carage and 1200 hours on a reman motor with paperwork. He want to use it to spread manure, tub grind hay and use it on a bedding processor to bed his feedlot with. Also might run the tmr mixer in a pinch and use it to round bale corn stalks with in the fall on a vermeer corn stalk special. He was looking for input to see what I though of a track tractor for said usage I didn't really know so I'm wondering if NAT can help me out! TIA
Edit... Forgot to add Its a narrow stance machine with 18" belts and he already knows they ride rough as a cob on the highway but he only goes 5 miles or less at a time.

West Central Indiana | I had one for a few years. There are two sets of pins and bushings in the undercarriage one horizontal set for tensioning and one vertical set for aligning the tracks. If the vertical pins and bushings are wore the tracks run off center. The tracks get very hot and wear bad on one side. I would look close at the guide blocks (both sides). I would also drive it a ways (several minutes) and check closely for anything in the undercarriage that is hot. Also track tractors are not much good if it is slick on top they don't steer very well. |

| I agree I told him to find a wheel machine but he didn't believe me I'm going to show him all your replies as well! Basically he found this one for 29k and is a tight wad and doesn't want to spend 50k for a nice 8400 mfwd |

nw ia | It'll be like a pig on rollerskates when running on frozen ground. I would imagine a greasy feedlot would be worse. |

western iowa,by Denison | good pto unit-I would look for a 8000 seris without a cab-have not found one yet |

The Green Hills of Missouri | He will spend 20K on gravel and yard repairs!!!! No way is it a yard dog! I wouldn't want to be around when he's on snow and ice. |

Camp Douglas Wi. 40miles nw of wi. dells | We have three 8410Ts, we do not use them for any yard work at all, if the fields are soft we put them on manure spreaders but that's it. Dan |

Beresford, SD | We've had an 8400T, Was our tillage tractor....replaced with 8360RT. There is NO WAY I'd own a tracked tractor for the jobs described. Get a wheeled tractor! Garvo, I can not figure out your obsession of running tractors with out cabs! JMO!

Williamsport IN | Only guys around me that still run JD trac tractors have hired help and never get in them. Never seen anybody use one for a chore tractor. |

| Thanks again everyone I have never driven one so didn't know what to tell him.... I'll defiantly show him your guys responses! |

Central MN | Bad idea. They don't like mud and it'll tear up the yard if your turning sharpe. Would be fine for a stationary pto but that's about it? Would be good in the field provided it's not too wet |

Your moms house | That's a double no way in hell. It won't be good for any of those jobs and its a narrow stance. |
