West Central IA
Dad modified a pedal tractor for my 2.5 year old son. Bigger tires, bearings on the pedal crank, big rear axle with bearings, heavier smoother steering, multiple sprocket/gearing choices, a "shift" lever on the side, and 4255 decals....just like daddy's! He also put a heavier axle and bigger tires under a wagon. He's working on a few more for my nephews. He also built a hay rack and a 4 row planter when I was a kid.

The rapidly vanishing farmland of Boone Co. Ind.
Very cool! Thinking it needs a better seat for more low end torque though.

Has he have any RED tractors?

Years ago I built several tractors for our Young Farmers group for Kiddie tractor pulls, and the sled. That was great time !

Years ago very handy neighbor set one up like that for the grandkids tractor pulls. Didn't take long for them to be DQ'd, and rules changed to everyone uses the same tractor.

I'll have to see if dad has pictures of the steering. I really don't know how he remade the steering....but it steers unbelievably easy and smooth. And I'll try get one of the planter sometime. He has made 3 other tractors and 2 sleds for pedal pulls. We used to do 5-10 pulls a year but now only do 2 local fairs. Pull from 4 years to adult classes....the adult ones get pretty interesting sometimes!

I'll post a few more pics and see if dad has some from building them....

And yes he has built one red one....it gets used for the men's class

That's awsome! When I was a kid it always drove me nuts the wheels couldn't handle the gravel, but those will be good to go!

what does the lever on the right side of the steering wheel do? is that some kind of tensioner for the chain? i'm assuming you cannot switch gears or "shift on the go" the way it looks or am i missing something?
