Pa/ny line
Put a new fuel pump on a 8.3 motor. I torqued it to 135 ft lbs and it keeps slipping time. Only slips time when the motor is working hard at full speed . What am I doing wrong ?

Shaft and gear need to be clean, I use either, if its slipping not a good deal, possible taper is wore, correct torque? Scott.

5.9 cummins has same pump and has the spec raised to 185 lb/ft to help stop the slipping

You can find different torque specs for that nut.

I think the last one i did i tried to torque to 150 but i stopped shy bc i was afraid to strip it.

Ive done quite a few and never had a slipping problem. Just tightening by feel.

Worn taper or not tight enough is all i can think of.

had a rebuilt from a big speed shop that did the same thing. I thought the shaft or the gear was bad and I called and griped . They said locktite it and torque it to 150 and that worked. It was on a 12 valve but the same principles should apply

Ive seen this happen if an injector is plugged with debris.

Could put loctite 609 on the taper as that's what they use on the cam gears on the isx/qsx. As Scott said, taper needs to be clean.

NW Central Ohio
...clean shaft, Stud and Bearing Mount Loctite. Should hold it. (Loctite Primer is very good stuff too, helps make a good bond)
