Subject: Fierce herbicide

I'm going to try Fierce herbicide this year, talking with the dealer today and he said there's now Fierce XLT. The XLT part is because they've added Chlorimuron (Classic). Don't know if it added anything to the price. Anyone care to share experiences or thoughts? It's supposed to be good for controlling waterhemp. Classic is supposed to help with morninglory which I've had issues with the past couple years. Thanks.

Used valor xlt with fierce pre last spring. Had very good control. Will be using it again for 100% of bean acres. You should look into a cost comparison of fierce xlt vs valor xlt spiked with fierce. You may be able to get the same combo for less $.

I used Fierce on 2500 acres last year (no-till 15" and conventional till 30") and it worked very well on waterhemp. Residual lasted 70 days with the right rains (3oz rate). If you are no-till you may want to use Fierce XLT to get the classic to control the giant ragweed and marestail. In the no-till 15" a second pass was only needed for volunteer corn.

I liked Fierce because it is also a corn herbicide and carry over issues are not a concern. That being said we are using a different product this year since we had a lot of flat corn. Wanting something to help suppress the volunteer corn.

We did have some beans got burnt a bit from heavy rain splashing and we had some friendly fire, but that can happen with many pre's. Timing is everything.

Thinking back to the late 80's, I remember what a blessing Pursuit was to replace Classic, as it didn't stunt the beans as bad, especially along gravel roads where lime dust had the pH very high.

Also, like most of the old school conventional bean herbicides, Classic was pretty consistent on dragging the next year's corn yields 10-25 bpa.

Make sure there's not any beans peeking through. Spray as soon as you can after planting. Watch your rate and overlap. The first field I sprayed with Fierce I had some issues with Hypro tips with the small filters in them. Rate was spiking across field and left some pretty sick results. Changed tips and the rest of the bean crop looked great. Only suppresses Giant ragweed though, but controlled everything else very nice.

Used 2oz of Fierce last year with 0.3 oz of first rate followed by flexstar/powermax. Have rampant resistant g. ragweed and waterhemp and this program plugged all the holes. It's pricey but good rebates back from Big M. Using it on all my acres this year.

Preplant or pre-emergence? Incorporation? Tankmix with sencor?

I used Fierce last year, 3 oz rate pre-emerge and spiked it with a little Sencor as it is a little weak on Giants. Other than tuning up the borders for some grass mid-season, it would have been a one pass program for me.

Granted, rains came timely last year and all pre's seemed to out perform normal.
