Do many of you put on dry at the same time of planting your corn, or milo vs knifing it on or using dry spreader?
Saw a post and it just got me to thinking, of one less trip over the field perhaps.
If you do it, can you show photos of your planter, and how you apply it.

thanks

One less trip, but a lot of time spent filling the planter.

Might take a little extra time, but I'll bet you are raising some pretty darn good corn for the dollars spent on fertilizer. So did you buy a 3600 sans the fertilizer and add it yourself? There is no question in my mind if if weren't doing strip till/fert, I'd be on a 50/50 rotation doing no till with a planter set up just like you have, and looks like you are doing the same. The economics of that system can't be beat. Love the narrow front 3020, by the way. Very nice looking, very handy tractor. Love your whole setup.

Very nice looking setup. My equ is newer then that fancy little jd, but a lot older then your plater. The dry spreader I own is about a '78 model.

We have a setup on our CaseIH 1200 planter that converts the bulk tanks into fertilizer hoppers. Bolt on fertilizer coulters and the coulter bar, route hoses and away you go. Just put on custom made meter assemblies that run off a hydraulic motor that is run off the block that runs the seed meters. Works pretty slick.

Yeah. Kinze wanted $1100 per fertilizer opener so we found a used set for $300 a row and rebuilt and painted them. The boxes and drives were new from kinze. Cross auger is kasco.

Don't know if there is a feasible way to put all your N down dry with a planter , this is how we apply our starter at planting. It has air delivery and holds about 4.5 tons 9-23-30.

what model planter,  how much does it hold.  any trouble with breakdowns with that much fertizler,   seems like would be hard on the drive system.

JD 1780 six row 30" spacing.
Holds about 2200 lbs.
No problems with drive.
Those 1780 planters tend to have negative tongue weight so the extension actually helps.

Here are some pictures of the dry fertilizer setup on our 1200 planter. I dont have close ups of the assembled meter though.

The parts came from Vandenbrinks in Sparta Ontario. Dave Vandenbrink and a local farmer designed the whole setup. Another local dealership also custom made a setup for another local farmer for his 1255 planter 2 years ago.

Fertilizer meters with bulk fan hoses attached. The hydraulic motor is run off section one of the seed meter drive block.

Front coulter bar. This is a factory option for the liquid fertilizer setup. The hydraulic ram is activated by the planter lift block. There is a hardwired on/off switch in the cab to turn it off during soybean planting when the bar isnt installed.

Wing coulters. Just unbolt when not used.

The original design had the hoses mounted out front. I moved all mine out the back and made a bracket to hold them in place.

Here is the bottom of the meter assembly.

And the meter roll.

How much dry fertilizer does the 1200 planter hold in the bulk tanks?

Whatever 40 bushles (if packed full) x 2 is of MAP. I can't tell you off the top of my head but it gets pretty heavy. Since we dont plant a whole lot of corn I usually only fill it half full. Corn runs out before the seed does.
