Just wondered what your opinion was of AMW PIPE 2.  This would be for installing tile with a Stealth ZD plow.
In talking to the sales people it seems to be more advanced than Trimble or Ag Leader's systems.

Whats your opinion?
Is it as accurate as they say?
Is it easy to use?
How is the design software?
Customer service?

Excellent software. It is as accurate as your GPS. Poor GPS = poor performance. I feel it is easy to use, but have been around it for quite a while. There are quite a few settings to be set up each machine. Once it is setup, most you will never change. I like the adjustablity of the tuning, there are numerous settings that can be changed for different conditions. The settings groups can be saved and recalled when that condition presents itself again. This however can make it more intimidating, but your dealer should be able to set it up, tune it and train you on what can be changed and when it needs to be changed. I am not sure what hydraulic controller you dealer is using, we started with 308L and then moved to DAC 7000. The DAC has much more flexible tuning capabilities.

Their design software is still pretty new, it has some very nice features with multiple line layout and auto sizing. It has come a long way in the last year. In another 6 months, I think it will be great. If you collect your topo with the same program, it works very good. Still has some problems with LIDAR, but they have been working on it. Like most design software, it is really aimed at pattern tiling.

Customer service will depend on your dealer as first line of defense. If they are good, you will be very happy. They do have advanced support through the company as well.

If you have any questions, my contact info is in my profile.

What do they say is more advanced about theirs? What can their software do control wise that Trimble or Ag Leader cannot? What features are you wanting that the other two don't have?

The biggest feature I see is automatically recalculating if it hits a rock and pops up instead of dropping back down.

Isn't AMW identical to AGPS? I thought one was a spinoff of the other.

Several points:

AMW (Alan and Mark Williams) are the original authors of the AMW/AGPS products ......industry calls it OEM relationships.........but evidently something has changed but the authors are still in place.

They are the original creators of vertical curve design which the industry has copied......and have been doing it long before the industry noticed.  I think they got an AE50 award which probably perked up the industry to that approach?

Initially perhaps not "easy" until you get trained on proper use then it is powerful and accurate which is most important considering "one and done" is a good thing.

Support in any venue always comes down to a good dealer verses a bad dealer so buy from a good dealer.

I started using the stuff because initially everyone was doing laser approaches under the GPS environment and I needed something more robust to take advantage of GPS.

The machine control engine is the same engine for all their products (i.e. ditch, pipe, dirt things) and thus keep in mind pipe in the ground is more of a one time shot than say a ditch.  So that being said......I have used their ditch program to cut a dirt blower meandering drain and the most slope I could get out of this one job was a .02% slope (about a .25 inch drop per 100 foot of linear travel.)  I almost had to drive a stake in the ground to watch the water move.  The point is when it dried up there were no wet spots in that "flat drain".

So an "easy" interface is not the end all consideration.  I have not used their design software for an actual project yet but have seen how dynamic it is when you play "what if" with the pipe locations......so that is all I can comment on that.

Good luck in your decision.

Note that Mark Williams, Alan Williams and AMW Machine Control have filed for bankruptcy protection. They are being sued in Federal Court by GeoLogic Computer Systems for copyright infringement.

Do you have any documentation of this?

Thanks. Google never occurred to me.
We'll have to see how this plays out.

The software formerly known as AMW-Works, that includes the modules Pipe, Dirt, Ditch, Level, Topo and WasteMaster, is now owned by GeoLogic Computer Systems, even though it still appears on the AMWGPS website as of this date. A Federal Court injunction prevents AMW and its employees from selling, servicing or supporting that software or derivatives of that software. The Software is available from GeoLogic's dealers, including AGPS, AgRePlan and JLD Lague. Other dealers are being added but not yet listed here. To purchase or update software, contact us and we will direct you to a GeoLogic dealer in you area or, if no dealer exists in your area, we will secure a dealer representative for you. GeoLogic has a registered copyright on the software and will enforce those rights.
