Subject: Did Steiger (CIH) build a green 4wd?

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

I see a Steiger  listed for auction that is green.........the old lime green of the original Steigers, not the JD green.

Did CIH build some green ones, for, say, an anniversary event?

Or, is it a paint job by an owner?

Just curious.

I am pretty sure that when CaseIH first bought Steiger that you could get either, like the 9170 time frame of tractors could be gotten either way, then CaseIH quit that and they were all painted red, and there was some pretty hard feeling and probally some law suites also cause I was told part of the original agreement when Steiger was sold to CaseIH was to continue to offer the green paint??

Here is a pic of a newer one that was done for some anniversary, this one came directly from the factory this way, I also seen a Quad Trac in Steiger green but that was a repaint job on an older machine that was listed at Burco Sales same as the pink quad below.

I think if you have deep enough pockets, they will paint it whatever color you want. As far as the original Steiger green goes, I have only heard about the really die-hard Steiger guys who insist those tractors need to be green

Maybe, except if you want a CaseIH Quad Trac painted New Holland blue then it is not going to happen no matter how much money you pay from the factory anyways, cause there was an article in a newspaper a couple of years ago (actually got picked on by many here on AgTalk cause they thought it was dumb) about a guy who ran basically all NH equipment and wanted a Quad painted blue (pretty sure this was before NH started putting tracks under them thus making there own version of a Quad) and no way no how would CaseIH paint it blue so he/dealer ended up repainting a red one to make him happy.

On a plant tour once I heard that there was a dealer getting Magnums in Australia in JD green. This was because JD green was the cheapest paint that faded the least that was the most available to them.

Thumb of Michigan
We had a 88 Panther 1000 that was originally red. The dealer we got it from new was also a JD dealer, he wasn't going to let a red one through his lot. At that time, you could get either color anyway. Not sure when red became standard.

I remeber that and was thinking about that when I read the first post. Didn't a bunch of people on here make fun of the way he held his (?) ARMS in the picture? Said something to the effect of he had apples under his armpits? Apparently that indicated a personality trait of some variety that the posters mentioned found objectionable. One of the weirder criticisms I've ever seen.

NESD

The first couple years after CIH bought out Steiger they were available in either color, then the Steiger name was dropped and so was the green color, with the exception of the green 535 that Dennis posted, the owner of this tractor (who is a good friend of mine) could get them green as long as he wanted as part of an agreement between Steiger and his father who was involved with the original Steiger Company and helped build Steiger into what it was. After a few years he decided that the green color was not that important to him and he started getting red ones, the Green 535 pictured was an anniversary special and was offered to my friend because of his fathers involvement in the company, he still owns it and it does get used in the field every year.

Indy Farmer - 1/5/2015 12:54 I think it looks better in that steiger color. Everyone and their grandma has a red case steiger. Different is cool (to an extent).

Langdon, ND
I use to work at the plant and currently a good buddy of mine works in the paint booth there. He's sent me numerous custom colored paint jobs with the tractors and loaders over the years. From what he told me, they will paint those things any color you want and its something like a $5000-8000 option from what I remembered. Maybe things have changed but that's what I remembered hearing.
