Subject: Looking at a John Deere 325 skid loader.. Advice?

Central Iowa
Hello all, I am looking at buying a skid steer, I found a John Deere 325 for $15,000, it has about 4500 hours on it. Does anybody have one of these or one similar to it? I see it has a 5 cylinder in it, any issues with them? Is 4500 hrs alot for a skid steer? Anything I need to look for when I go to check it out? Thanks!

Other than tires and filters my 325 has been virtually expense free. Has 2700 hrs now, bought new. Has way more pushing power than my "D" series. Very smooth and precise controls. Great machine so far. J

I'd say 4500 hrs is a lot for a skid steer.

We have a 325, 1200 hours. Replacing the water pump tomorrow because it's leaking. No other issues.

Got a 328 and a 332 at home with 4200 and 6000. Neither of them have been touched. Dairy here runs 318s and 320s to 10k. Says if you don't get rid of em before 11k they start having major issues

I don't think we've had hardly any trouble with ours, other than my hired man slipping trying to stomp the attachment levers down and breaking his ankle. And our gauge cluster was acting up at one point where it wouldn't start. Turned out to be a poor ground from the battery through the ROPS hinges. Ran a wire from the negative post on the battery to the ground screw in the corner of the ROPS and fixed that.

Thanks for the info guys! I talked with the owner and he said the engine has a small miss to it but after it warms up it runs perfect. He said there might be some sort of an update kit from deere that fixes that. Has anyone experienced this?

Our 325 seems to run a little rough and smoke a little when its cold but its done that since new and its never given us any major problems in 1600 hours. The only thing we worked on is the fuel guage because it wasn't reading right. Turns out dirt was building up around the plastic fuel tank and pushing the tank in. The float in the tank was rubbing on the inside and was sticking from time to time. Other than that it has been a great machine for us.

Our 325 also runs rough and smokes on cold starts. It's also done it since new.

We have glow plugs and some kind of factory heater, not sure if it's coolant or oil. It doesn't get plugged in unless its Canada cold.
