NE SD | I need a another hopper and considering setting it up to pull another one behind it. I am in SD so total length can only be 81'6". I already have a 38'6" merritt trailer and thinking of a another 38" 6" Wilson with a short tonged dolly in between. May be able to get by with a single wheel tandem dolly or a 1 axle dual wheel dolly. Not sure on what is all legal yet because I don't know how far apart the axles will be. Just looking for advice on how to set this up and what options there are for this. What is the minimum distance the 2 trailers can be apart so as to not hit when turning?

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | Are you think like the 3th or 4th photo, down? (combos.jpg) (trailer 5th wheel.jpg) Attachments ---------------- combos.jpg (15KB - 924 downloads) trailer 5th wheel.jpg (17KB - 925 downloads)

NE SD | More like the 5th photo down but possible only 1 axle under the front of 2nd trailer.

Anamoose, ND | So you are going to pull two 38 ft trailers? This might take some serious HP if you plan on running highway speeds or have any hills.

NE SD | The longest haul is about 15 miles so hp is not a issue.

ecsd | This is not my rig, but there are a lot of farmers and commercial truckers that pull them. My neighbor has one and he has a pusher on the tractor as well and he hauls 1800 bu. of corn legal. southeast north dakota | You must have alot larger intersections than we do around here. Looks like a pita for a 15 mile haul.

NE SD | 4ft is cutting it pretty close, I don't know about how to figure what dolly and position of trailer, but do know measuring and figuring axles and if going to do a single axle might as well forget it as it's about axle count to optimize two long trailers two axle is a minimum
BTW know of two guys running setup you describe Edited by pete37921x 12/18/2014 01:59

NE SD | Depends on # of axles. Aggregate haulers are up to 16 they should be good for around 160k, IDK for sure, lot o tires !! Chart stops at 13 axles and I'm NOT going to put all that axle count and spacing in states online program to figure it out !

NE SD | Bridge weight will not make in necessary to have a tandem in the front of back trailer because in I understand right I can't haul nearly full weight on back trailer anyhow. Am I right on this?

Southern Alberta Canada | The unit in the forth picture is a B train, are you guys starting to run them down there now?

South Western Ontario, Canada | With a shorter wheelbase than my land battleship you can get under your 81' limit. Both are legal (here) for around 1700 bu. Heck I will even sell you the trains so we can buy another straight 5axle!! Number one and five on the straight trailer are steering axles. Not sure if Michigan has jumped on this technology or not but they should. NE SD | No, run A trains. 13 axles will get you 140k gross. Side dumps running around on 17 axles grossing 160k. Grain trailers are like jd9600 posted above. Edited by Chad H 12/18/2014 08:23

| I am 75 ft in length with 1 trailer..The 110 is front bumper to rear bumper on trailer, ladder and tarp handle do not count. | |||

NE SD | Trailers up to 81'6" do not need any permits or have any restrictions on road travel. Trailers any longer need permits and are limited on roads they travel Lead trailer is limited to 45'

NE SD | You can run the single, like a freight Co. dolly but yes lower wt. The interior bridge from lead trailer rear axles to dolly will be the limiting factor on weight on it and lower overall gross because of less axle count Will be limited to about 12k on dolly

Grain trailers are like jd9600 posted above. Always neat to read just how different crossing an imaginary line can change laws. It takes 13 axles to get 140k for you and it takes us 8 axles to get the same weight......

Grain trailers are like jd9600 posted above. Wow! Whats the tare weight on those units? We can do a hundred thousand pounds payload on eight axles and run it coast to coast to coast (Well the third coast could be pushing it but we can run right to Alaska for sure).

NE SD | The grain rigs are usually 40k or so. I would rather run axles than have crappy (er) roads. You have to remember we are surrounded by states that don't allw anything close to even those weights other than I think they can run into Wyoming. There used to be a truck running around that could haul some crazy amount of weight. It had the drive axles on a 10'1" spread and pulled a spread axle grain hopper with a lift axle in the middle of the trailer between the hoppers.
