The PTO clutch is starting to slip on the gas IH 656. Did a complete engine overhaul this fall now this happened. This is a chore tractor not a field tractor but would like to be able to use in on an auger or the grinder mixer. How is this changed or is their an adjustment? Thanks!

PTO is a hyd drive with its own pump mounted on it. Drain the rear end oil and it comes out the back with four bolts. Then can have it rebuilt.

There is an adjustment on the rod going into the unit. But if it is slipping already the discs are probably burnt and should be replaced.

If you have a good hill to park it on can pull without draining oil. Be sure to put a gauge on it after rebuild to check hydraulic engage pressure, think mechanic told us 65psi when we did our 686, not sure anymore though.
