Almond Wisconsin | Looking for a pre-emission pete for our hopper duties, ( just like everybody it seems) found a 2005 378 with 475 ISX. Any opinions I could get or things I should look for? Was there issues with this model in the first few years?
It is a 10 speed fuller with 705k. Thanks |

West Central Indiana | See if it has had the main bearings on the crank redone. I was always told the ISX needed to be done by 650,000 and the N-14's could go to 1 million. Run a 500 ISX in a 05 kenworth love the power but doesn't matter if you baby it or run it hard it gets 5-5.5 MPG. |

Marion,ks | We have a 04 with just over a million miles 3rd turbo 2nd water pump and various egr issues a 1 head gasket original injectors and bearings. The 07 and the 01 have less than 500,000 and are basically all orginal and get between 6and 7 mpg in T-600 KWs pulling hoppers, all are 475 or 450 hp.I really want to delete the emmissons stuff on the 07 and make it like the 01 engine, it seems like the egr engines run hotter. I really do not like the turbo on the egr engines very expensive and short lives. |

ecil | I've gotten along very well with the isx usually put a turbo on and rebuild the egr cooler about 750000 then run em to about a million good luck |

Leeds, North Dakota | Ben, any maintenance records? if not could be a can of worms, could nickel and dime you to death, first the motor, than suspension and steering, theres a reason for price on these high mileage trucks, be careful, Scott. |

Urbana, Ohio | I would strongly suggest rods & main bearings if you have no maintenance records available. Delete EGR and get rid of stock junk VGT turbocharger, chances are if you do not you will be calling the Big Hook to get you off the road as I did.
PDI EGR delete, PDI Tune to reprogram for no EGR + a few extra ponies and a Holset HX60W turbo, this will require new manifold. I'd need to go through my receipts for manifold specs. With labor this could be $4,500 to $5,000. 7-7.5mpg, driving like Earnhardt...this is most of my setup on an 05 379exhd w/13 spd. My truck was 475 with factory settings, now it's 650 +. This setup will help the EGT's stay much much lower.
My advice is look for a 3406E or C15 (6NZ) CAT. They're sought after for a reason

Almond Wisconsin | Would like to find a 6nz but don't want to pay 50k for a truck that is not going to be getting that many miles. |
