The Krause will do the most sizing/leveling then the Case-IH ,lastly the Deere. Same order of resale value.

Out of the 3 listed, the Dominator. We've ran DMI 530B's and 730B's, then went to a Dominator. Currently run an 870 and bought a used 512 this year. Now saying that the Dominator would just edge out the 870, but the down fall with it is that it took some a lot of ponies to pull. Worked a 435 hp tractor with a 15' Dominator, where we are now pulling an 18' 870 with the same tractor. From my experience with the 5 & 730B's the 512 will leave the ground smoother, and that is about it.

I read the info on the 870 and it states that since the ripper points are on 20 inch centers vs 30 inch centers you don't need to run as deep. Just curious if that is how you are doing it--i.e. are you running the 870 shallower than the 512,dominator,etc? Thanks

Shank spacing on the 870 is 24"  Dominator is 18"  that's in part why the Dominator pulls harder per foot of width.

Boog runs the 870 most of the time. Usually I try to run around 5.5 mph, and then if it is pulling easy, I put it in the ground deeper, and vice versa

Thanks for correcting me. Yes , I knew it was 24 inch centers , not sure why I wrote 20.

The rear shanks on a Dominator are smaller than the front & generally set to run shallower. Some run a smsller sweep on the rear as well but we ran 7" DMI winged points front & rear. Run the same on the 870. Far as depth, I run the 870 deeper than what I did the Dominator.According to the productivity monitor on the tractor I'm covering 2.25 - 2.5 acre more poor hour with the 870 than I was the Dominator. In a 12 - 15 hr day thats several more acres per day & on less fuel as well. JMO,but I feel the 870 buries more trash. Ground condition between the 870 & the Dom is a toss up.

I've never been around the 512, demoed the 870 18'. We have 2 18' dominators. Run 10-12". Dominator leaves soil leveled very uniform and buries a lot of trash. We primarily work corn stalks but some soybean stubble. They pull hard compared to 870. I adjust my swath width to 16.5' and run in a headland to get the Dominator to cover, I've found running back and forth that there will be a strip of ground not tilled. Never had that issue with the 870. More moving parts on the Dominator. $9,000 to rebuild with all new blades and bearings. Ran close to 8500-9,000 acres before rebuilding. 15-16 acres per hour running 7.5-8 mph with a 550 quadtrac.

I would look hard at the 870 / 875 as it will do just as good as the Dominator and require less horsepower.

An 870 is best in my opinion. The dominator is a close 2nd.
I ran Brent cpc's for years, I liked them because they are so adjustable, you can change the gang angle, gang height or just use it as a v ripper with gangs all the way up. My biggest complaint with them is they leave the ground pretty rough. A 510 or 512... well you may as well buy a Glencoe soil saver and put a leveler on it. They do just as good of a job. Around here most guys are trading in the 512s for 870s.
